Why our system give so much importance to academic records over creative aptitude and natural inclination?
How many really innovative geniuses got decimated due to this academic records tyranny. While muggers and rote learners secure admissions in institutes of excellence.

One thing is sure you must have been the class clown all throughout your student life. Just because a brilliant student is rich does not mean he should be ostracized. Conversely poor students are not always bright.
Ramanujan is the brightest student India has ever produced. His work in number theory is pathbreaking. Volumes written on his work decorates every library in the world. Second brightest student was Subranyam chandrashekhar (the nobel laureate theoretical astrophysicist) though he had taken citizenship of USA later in his life. This is intriguing that Shyam benegal found a place in the list but where is Satyajit Ray (his academic career was good and he learnt painting from Acharya nandalal bose)?
The list does not include the scientist stalwarts of bygone era of british India as well as of independent era - Rediff if you want to make an impression on young minds - do some due diligence please rather than honing on Manmohon Singh, Shyam benegal, Kiran bedi. But knowing your IQ, nothing much is expected anyway
Hafeez Contractor shall be happy to have been clubbed with Tagore, Bhaba!
Tagore shall be surprised to be labelled a meritorious student!
Sarin will marvel at the misnomers here!
Bhaba shall not be pleased at Nehru's reference support! If I am not mistaken, he was Parsee "dikra"-and Tata's financed him all through.TIFR,IISC, education etc.
All in all, an article full of feelgood glossies, sidelining truth.

Quite Right...Bt I think we are obviously consturing GOOD STUDENTS as GOOD ACADEMIC STUDENTS
Like u said ...Tagore was nt gr8 in academics...(bcos he never went to proper school..had his own school in his house)....bt actually the writer refers to students in their own field....
In this case, Tagore was a good student of art....n fr that he had no schoolin

Thanks for the article posted. But one point is quite confusing. Rabindra nath Tagore was never a meritorious student like Homi Bhava etc. Tagore was a born genius and remained a class of its own across the globe for the centuries to come.

Even shyam benegal will be happy to clubbed with tagore (both are into art and literary field)!! Manmohan singh is blue eyed boy of the media. There are many academicians better than him, but none have Gandhi family's blessings to be considered as 'genius'. Anyway this list is another garbage from rediff.
Its very motivating and interesting to know abt the best Indian students and how they succeeded in their life. Pls put information on more good students.
One common thing to note abt these successful students, is they followed their heart and had the support of their parents.
SO ALL STUDENTS FOLLOW UR HEART. DONT CHOOSE COURSES ON BASIS OF WHICH WILL GET U MORE PAID IN JOB.
SUCCESS COMING AFTER PERSISTENCE AND HARD WORK ONLY LAST FOR LONG
