IIM... Management Institute ?
by varun nagalia on Mar 14, 2010 10:50 AM

IIMs - touted to be the best management institutes have just shamed the word management. The situation is grave since it has the potential to alter careers (read lives) of many aspirants and there appears to be no ownership. I always had the opinion that these intitutes are providing corporate leaders with accountability but now I am rethinking.

I agree completely. The IIMs should get off their high horse, stop worrying about setting precedents or loss of reputation, and reconduct the test this year.

why people proudly say that this is a big exam.It is a torture for the students and waste of money. We could have opened more colleges and better places to study.

teething problems?
by Kunal Mudgal on Mar 12, 2010 01:19 AM

The problem here lies in giving the exam to Prometric based on their calibre in GRE and GMAT. But what needs to be taken into consideration is while GRE and GMAT are conducted everyday with small numbers, the CAT was planned over a period of just 10 days.

I guess if GRE or GMAT could be taken only on 10 days a year, the situation would be just as chaotic. Lack of prepardness and planning by the IIM's is what has caused this situation today.

one Observation
by sbshaw on Mar 11, 2010 01:19 PM

One strange observation... not sure if it holds true or not.

"Most of the candidates who took CAT in 2nd round managed better %iles. "

May be its coz they got more time to prepare or something else. But I personally can make out that two individuals with almost equal caliber(based on mock test scores) the one who took test in 2nd round actually benefited.

Would love too see the actual algorithm which Prometric used to convert Raw score to calculate Normalized score.

They should have disclosed this Normalization process beforehand in Prospectus or atleast during tests. And how do they ascertain that every slot had equal level of hard, medium and easy question. Hope they didn't conclude this after gathering data after actual CAT ie the way GMAT does- Depending on correct/incorrect % of attempts it labels a questions difficulty.

CAT unlike GMAT cant do this coz it just might happen that in one particular slot 90% of question becomes Easy or Medium. Hence although one answered 15 questions in each section you are not even in top 25%. Thats bad. Isnt it? You didn't even get a chance to prove your worth.
