Our Indian mentality is feudal. Everyone -politician,businessmen, film people and any famous personality worth of its salt promote their family members into their career irrespective of credentials. Elections in India is a very expensive business and only people who have massed enormous wealth and have political Godfather can dream of getting into politics. We keep cribbing about merit in every walk of life but when it comes to ruling the country which is so critical all merit has been given a good bye. As long as such people with political backup keep getting into politics we cannot expect any transformational changes.

You are right- I India, it is hard for a woman to come up from a lower strata, it is partly due to our feudal mentality, but our male chauvenistic society is the biggest hurdle. We applaud when somebody achieve something by virtue of their privileged birth, but how far we encourage or support a lay woman to achieve?
