my cat experience
by vikki singh on Jul 11, 2010 09:34 PM  | Hide replies

been a few years however i wish to share my xperience i joined a chd based coaching inti for cat prep , i enrolled for the test series only , the instiute in sec 47 later it shifted was run by an ex army officer , the gentleman was a very honest fellow . i happen to know that test series in most institutes were not run properly however he disscussed each and every test and was ready to take any problem .the institutes had a good collection of books i paid rs 600 and used to took a book or two daily and reads it throughout day since i am very fond of reading other than that i just gave the tests and routinely attended the discussions class ,MY SCORES WERE OK IN TEST SERIES MANAGED TO GET IN THE TOP 20 AMONG SAY 200 250 STUDENTS A FEW TIMES . WHEN I GAVE CAT I WAS NOT NERVOUS , the test papers were mosly a bit on the higher side than cat in terms of difficulty , so that really helped , i was never good in quant so decided to focus on language and di , (most teachers advice against this and would insist on giving equal time all sections )managed to attempt all english q's and most of di was about 5 minutes short in quant but i didnt cared much about it any way. when the scores were anounced got 94.7 overall percentile with 97.5 in english got calls from ubs chandigarh , FORE DELHI and many institutes

from my cat score i assume i got most q,s correct in language , here is my take on cat strategy and language
CAT IS ALL ABOUT PRACTICE
WHATVER BE YOUR PAST SCORES IN GRAD , ETC PRACTICE AND CAT WILL REWARD YOU
IF U CAN SIT ALERT FOR TWO HOURS AND ATTEMPT A PAPER WITH CONFIDENCE, THOSE TWO HOURS CAN MAKE YOUR LIFE
attempt a couple of tests without any particular strategy in mind that will give you an idea where u stand and your weak points , than work on them

let it be your passion to solve q,s a score above 90 is not very difficult to achieve , however as you go above that competition gets tougher ,
dont collect all the books and notes etc u can get this is the habit of many students
take a good set of notes , a test booklet and make it a point to finish these before picking any thing else , once you complete it my advice would be to go through it again rather than any new material this sounds irritating to most people but it really helps
well enough of advice
their is life beyond cat
GOOD LUCK TO ALL
