Why are we wasting our time looking constantly at Direct Tax when GOI is actually making money through various indirect taxes like Service tax, excise, import duties, VAT , entertainment tax and different cess, duties & levies ? Even poorest of the poors are required to pay these taxes whenever they consume anything as there is no exemption bar in these taxes !! India's ratio of indirect tax to direct tax is the second highest after S.Africa.

agreed with u. but to corect urself, plz note that there is exemption even for indirect taxes eg upto 1.5 crore for excise, 8 lakhs for service tax, etc. only thing is companies manufacturing or trading, r not giving any benefits to customers.
direct taxes r clearly visible pinching us. moreover, dt is the only tax which cant b avoided by salaried ppl.

It makes sense in the US, where you have Social Security to keep you going when you're not earning. Here in India, we get taxed with little governmental accountability, and no safety net. Most of our tax money goes down the drain. If, on top of that, 50% of our assets go into the same black hole, we're screwed!

when filing for your annual returns, you must submit proof of all the taxes paid, and prove that that you have paid excess tax. the final amount would come in negative, which is the amount you are claiming as IT claim.

We can clam for the refund as suggested by Rohit. And in case ther eis any delay by bureaucrats asking for favour, simply ask the status through RTI(Right to Information).
