Make a good study of selected funds from different players and try to be happy with a return between 12 to 15% on an average. Then your disappointments and losses will be less.
Mutual fund is a risky investment, but tunra to profit if it is played tactically. I invester 60,000 - equaally divided in two growth funds HDFC grwoth and Kotak 30 in 2008 oct (6 month SIP), now HDFC growth offered 53,000 where Kotak 30 turned to 43,000. As the market is stable, I have just redeemed. The tricks is to shuffle in between funds with investment in SIP, that will cut ot the risk as well as provides a win-win situation. - Dr. Tarakranjan Gupta, Bangalore

Gandhiji is lying. No fund has been able to double during that period. At the best he would have got twice that amount. I am a regular investor in MFs, and even after ten years, I have not seen such big returns during any period.
Though, I invest mostly in five or four star rated funds.
