what does young..successful etc have to do with cycling
by JM on Jun 12, 2010 11:09 AM

If a poor guy cycles to work does he save any less fuel that an rick guy riding a car? Or are you saying that aged people are more likely to cycle?

The writers on rediff have always been 2nd tier (including that prof from IIM-B who wrote some crap about Pak). I hope you dont slip to 3rd.

macadam?
by Suresh on Jun 11, 2010 10:52 AM  | Hide replies

tearing down the macadam? google search of 'macadam' gives 8,760,000 hits whereas 'road' gives 738,000,000 hits. u have any problem with the word "road" other than the urge to show that u know an obscure word like "macadam".

Seriously, what's your problem? If its a new word, its always interesting to use it or know about it. Btw, "tearing down the macadam", reads a lot better than "tearing down the road". Lets not be cynical about anything and everything.

Boss.....the objective of communication is to make the readers understand. "Macadam"
simply does not serve that.

Cycling on Indian Roads.
by south indian on Jun 11, 2010 08:06 AM  | Hide replies

Cycling on the Indian Roads is very unsafe with chaotic traffic everywhere. it is very difficult if there is no separate tracks for the sake of the cyclists. most of the hit and run accident victims are cyclists, pedestrians and two wheel drivers. This point should be kept in my mind before you venture for cycling on the indian roads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry friend...not to single out your comment.... I would like to reach out each person reading this and say...there are thousand reasons to avoid cycling and just few to do it.... But bottomline is..its worth it.... lets not be cynical about this movement and lets reach out to the authorities like our municipal corporations or companies and raise our voice for better facilities....

I cycle to work here in Florida, US
by nitin sharma on Jun 10, 2010 11:57 PM  | Hide replies

I regularly cycle to work here. There are proper cycling tracks which are maintained periodically. My few colleagues also bought cycle after me. I saw one thing that Indians here see cyclist in a different way but americans really appreciate to ride cycle to work as its go green effort and good for health. I chhose to cycle as my workplace is not too far, good to keep my tummy in, no issues with parking and no licence required.

I really appreciate these techies for using cycles, this should be encouraged further by developing cycle tracks, similar in Pune.

When more and more people start using cycles for daily travel, I'm sure the government will take notice and plan roads and other support infrastructure for cyclists. It will save huge amount of fossile fules and help reduce our carbon footprint. Keep our environment polution free, and last but not the least, keep us fit.
