Back to civilization- what do you mean
by Amitava Ghosh on Jun 01, 2010 11:22 PM  | Hide replies

Not sure what you meant by "Still unsure of the scooter's condition, I offered the mechanic an extra sum to accompany me to back to civilisation in Pune". I don't know what made you write this..an act of immaturity. Just for your information people in villages are as civilized as in towns/cities, Anyway you need to learn how to write properly

Its supposed to be taken in lighter vain. He probably means known people and his comfort zone by using the word "Civilization".

My definition of "civilisation" differs here. For me, a civilised man is the one who doesn't adapt to his natural
surroundings, but makes his surroundings adapt to him. In the process he messes with the natural environment. World Wars, Nuclear Bombs, Global Warming are some some products of a "civilised man". These so called "uncivilised men" live in near perfect harmony with natural environment.

People from City are afraid to help each other...
by YeahRight on Jun 01, 2010 10:23 PM  | Hide replies

Go to a village you can find goodness everywhere, along with ofcourse some bad people too, you faint on the road in a village, you can be sure you will be taken care immediatly, you fall on city street, you are as good as a dog fell down, no one will care...even the authority...City people are too busy to care for your life....including me...I wonder sometime what we achieve out of this busy life, I see in bombay dogs gather around and trying to help anoher injured dog, not humans..

I guess its not about the city people have become insesitive, but our system has made it so troublesome, u help someone and you lend yourself in all sort of trouble, in villages they hardly follow any so called law, procedure etc to be afraid of, it all works on law of humanity.

Am an Tam Bram who lived in punjab for sometime and once I went to Kapurthala to hear Wadalis Qawallis(An tamilian addicted to sifi qawalis!).After the mehfil was over I found that the last bus has already left by 9.00pm and one of the gentleman who noted my condition offered that I must stay with him when i declined he dropped up to highway and helped me to get a lift. The humanity is still alive only in punjab and that is the reason they are happy.

With such god fearing citizens who help each other out in unavoidable times of need no wonder Indians hold the beacon to our planetary civilization.

I hope you note my sarcasm and in case it isn't quite dripping then I'd like to know what paper this journalist writes for, as I want to make sure I never ever stumble on it.
