every cat, dog, buffalo, monkey, bird can roam in sun and benefit from it. But lo! Homo sapien will get cancer even in the monsoon if he dares to step outside without sunscreen.

What utter rubbish. In fact we are having epidemic of illnesses including cancer, heart ailments, and bone diseases due to lack of vitamin D, the best source of which is the Sun.

at least half an hour daily exposure to sun WITHOUT any screen is minimum required. Ever heard of any laborer getting above mentioned diseases?

Monsoon is new?
by Tom Dick on Jul 06, 2010 04:59 PM  | Hide replies

From time immemorial we had monsoon and rain and never heard anyone dying due to lack of 'sun screen'. Now, all of a sudden, we all need to be covered with sun screen...why? Advertisement for sun screen ?

You forget to mention the brand name that paid you. People might buy from a competitor brand unknowingly.

see my reply below.

You may not really need sun protection in monsoon, unless you have the photsensitivity that the article talks about.

A small percentage of population suffer from photsensitivity, and as the article says it is aggrevated by certain medicine taken over periods of time.

In general, folks in India are careless about sun exposure.
I howver dont know about the cancer issue, that is mostly felt by other countries due to long exposure during sunbathing.....then ur asking for it !!

Unforunately i am a hardware engineer !! so unlike most folks in Kaliyuga who are money minded like you, i thought of putting up some data on folks i met with photonsensitivity.

If you dont want to read it all of you can screw yourselves.

the more u avoid the sun, the more u will invite diseases due to lack of vitamin D, the BEST form is obtained by exposure to the sun

actually that is not true.
I too thought folks in India did not need much of sun protection.
However, over the last few years i have seen folks with Photsensitivity.
Their skin seems to darken at spots with itching and burning. If untreated, it can permanantly damage skin. Some dermatologists who do not detect this at an early stage have caused patients to suffer.

My theory is that come what may if you are exposed to sunlight for periods of time > 15 minutes a day, do use some sort of skin protective cream.

With the ozone depletion, things could get worse. Talk to dermatologists who have experience with UV sensitivity. it helps.
