Are they???
by Aseem Shrivastava on Apr 08, 2010 07:35 PM

I too was laid off in July. But got another job in August. I however quit that one in October as it was something I was really not enjoying. From that day, I have been looking at a suitable job. Have appeared for some interviews but it turns out to be the project on hold. May be its my experience or the package. But the fact remains I am still without a job. I hope to find one real soon. Best wishes to those who have got it.

Narayan murthy and Ajim Premji screw up
by Gundu on Jan 22, 2010 10:50 PM  | Hide replies

Could have had ties ups with numerous startups, bought original development companies and put India in development map. That is why when leaders screw up everyone pays to be coolies. When do 300million Indian middle class wake up to this reality?

what is shameful in losing a job unless the person is fired? I think rediff just puts in some crap. The economy is going to suck this year big time across the US and UK. UK the world financail power house is living in 90% national debt. So India will be affected too. Whoever says India and China are immuse rea living in la-la land.
Postive thinking is good but without dose of reality it is called EUPHORIA.

Now, UK does not want to outsource to India ( Cheap labor). Their saying is , why cant India invent instead of being a HUGE back office of the world ? As a result , well , public demand matters, pretty much all call centers of UK businesses are back in the UK.

We know how our guys are beaten and killed in Australia - precisely because we tend to leave our own garbage at home and fly out for greener pastures.

Then comes the interesting part - the US. While outwardly 'equal opportunity' society, when it comes to brass tacks - aka details, the US job market (what is left) is heavily in favor of US citizens. So all ye H1B, L1 and B1 (cheating) ppl , take cover or get back to India.

Except for the big three or four companies whose contracts run into 10sor atleast 5s of years, all smaller maggotty , 'me too' type software houses ( well.. sadly) going belly up, fast and steady - not slow and steady here. So , for all practical purposes, the ourlook for 2011 or 2012 is that , IT will reach equilibrium where jobs created in a geographical location will be absorbed by local people and pretty much no chance of you and me sitting in Bangalore or Hyderabad and coding. Thats the fact.

With international pressures on India to sign WTO agreements - from farm subsidies through GI crop seed patenting , the things are not rosy. COs , how much business Indin IT companies can get from PHOREN companies will depend on if India signs these agreements.

It is not that we, Indians, can't invent. We belive western tech, style of life etc are better than us and we are trying to copy them. The result is we are all forgetting our past and adopting to west. West wanted to dump alopathy (their invention) in india, we dumped our herbal system. Like ways right from Pizza - Dosa to Pant - Dhothi, we are ready to immidate them and our method of living in the dust bin. Result, they are telling we need to invent like what they are doing... Its funny

You know what, jobs will be absorbed by PHORENs than outsourcing is a double edged sword. If you arent arm chair economist, you certainly are a wheel chair one. India and China together are big markets that none of the fancy intellect product innovators want to ignore. India probably has more Nokia phone users than Finland. Take the message from the analogy than yap from your wheel chair.

Now you wanna call me a moron too. Go ahead mate, shoot. ;-)

Dude,

Think about this - are we always going to be a sevice provider. Are we only going to Infys and Wipros but no Intels and Apples? Which is an Indian invented product/technology that has the world gaga over it? The rise of the Euro and the way the dollar is depreciating, India's cost advantage is rapidly decreasing. Also, who ever works in IT will tell you the QC horror stories. If you are from IT you will know that the mundane IT work is sent to India. All important BAs and architects are in US. There are very few projects that have 100% execution in India. TCS gets majority of its revenue from maintenance projects and not new development. If you know economics demand and supply will reach an equilibrium and Inidan IT will then be a commodity than a value added service. So brother, go figure.

The reason for being no intl types or apple types is that once you start one you will be surrounded by govt officials who are supposed to help you out with rules and laws but basically suck your blood and get to close your business......

Sunshine up IT's A** Aka Ghaantaa happy days part II
by Malwan on Jan 22, 2010 01:14 PM

The last decade of the millennium saw a burst of tech innovation. We are talkling about the cliched Information Technology (Computers , software and things you know ?).

While EVERY SINGLE software - tool, product, suite and so on, was conceived, designed and developed in the United states, those inventors were not keen on getting their hands dirty - the bricks and masonry work of CODING.

India, with massive engineering graduates (who cares the quality anyway ) and dime a dozen computer course diploma holders, came in handy - cheap labor and ready to travel. Above all, many of us speak passable english. And our outlook of job is 'what is on demand' at best.

So , people went overboard. They talked laurels , heapead praise and published, celebrated for IT REVOLUTION of India ( Its like the contract laborers of a huge building - masons, brick layers and concrete mixers celebrating for technical achievement of a huge sky scraper). The world smiled and looked away (aka.. let these morons live in bliss..whats wrong with it).

Fast forward 10 years, post dot com crash, reality check. Enter China, Philippines and some Eastern European countries. SO the competition intensifies. India's cheap labor advantage taken a beating as the above said countries are equally hungry and competitive and the best part is they are actually developing products as against 'only services' (aka body shopping) that India is involved in.

Another 10 years, 2010. Lets see.

Happy days and......Ghaantaa ..
by Malwan on Jan 22, 2010 12:00 PM  | Hide replies

Ghantaa happy days.

Trust Roubini. He said it all.

The spurt is due to Governments pumping stimulii - from Iceland through India, every country including the European union. Huge chuncks of tax money is pumped in to create jobs - ARTIFICIALLY. This was done with an intent that increased jobs will increase spending and increased production and the cashflow.

But the fact of the matter is, as the adage 'once bitten twice shy ' goes, people's spending habbits changed drastically from the pre-depression era. People are spending less than half of what they used to spend before. Except for essentials like food and clothing, rest of the spending - including home buyers , has been reduced to a fraction.

So , all in all this whole thing is like a MEGA PONZI scheme - a legitimate one initiated by governments across the globe. The moment the spending does not boost the cash flow, the income to the government, consequently the funding to the stimulii will cease.

And when the stimulii ceases, the bow will break like titanic. So, brace yourself for a bigger depression like the 20s where people lined up for food on streets. Simple logic.

In India , it will get worse cos we have the worst form of democracy - aka banana republic.

These days there are more f^^king arm chair economists who speak struff straight out of WSJ editorials and ET columns - and understand little of the basics. F^^king morons.

Hi Malwan,
Your logic is impressive, if only u had a lil more positive outlook towards life! You could have been a person who could have brought changes to our economy & the way our people think, instead of just ranting your frustration out here!
Have Heart & see the sun rising over the hills of recession! You will see a growing world economy instead of the Depressing lines for food!!

Unfortunately, truth is harsh. When truth is said, every one is taken aback and suddenly try and glean sun shine up one's asz.

Being positive does not mean being a complete f^^king moron with blind eyes and not wanting to see what is happening. And then singing christamas carols while your house is on fire.

All people who talk about positive thinking fall in two ocategories (a) Complete f^^king morons who does not understand what is happening and does not even have a frigid clue. They just tweet like some dumb bird on positive outlooks on live
(2) People who escape . They would rather sit on the sunny side waiting for the shadow rather than see the shadow in face.

Either way there is no difference.

These are facts and undisputed.

By the way, you must be in the first category from your version.
