Gimmick or value ad?
by Ramesh Sethuraman on Jan 26, 2010 08:00 AM  | Hide replies

I see this exercise more as a gimmick than a real value add. Spending just a day might boost the moral, but what the person would have learnt is like a sand grain in the beach.

Why corruption breeds in private cos and we blame Govt organization only ?
Talents have the shortest career in an organization. ( 3 mths to 2 yrs)
Mediocre have the average career life in an organization . ( 2 yrs to 6 yrs)
Duffers enjoy the longest career life in an organization. ( 6 yrs till he retires from service)
What is the percentage of total middle management cadre employee deserve the hierarchical slot in a private organization ?
Why low rank officials in private organizations are only doctored the speech of team work, dedication, loyality, professionalism, commitment , leadership and hard work ?
Why promoters don`t take a notice of middle managerial people`s incompetency ?
Why corruption is rampant in private cos and perhaps more than in Govt Organizations ?
Why private cos managers lack leadership and commitment and expect their juniors to only pitch extra hard ?
Why corrupt and lazy persons thrive in Private cos ?
Why private cos management don`t like people with high degree of honesty and integrity as their employee ?
Why corruption breeds in private cos and we blame Govt organization only ?
Why buttering only helps in reaching up the ladder of success in any organization ?
If directors/chairman are visionary then why they fail to find right business model and on failing takes the route of layoffs especially lower rank officials ?
Why CEOs/V.Ps/GMs are not questioned about their role in making the company fail ?

Two types of people ...
by Pradip Rabindranath on Jan 24, 2010 09:06 AM

There are enough people out there who have achieved and contributed to the GDP but rather not talk about it.

Then there are hypes who will not miss an opportunity to stick on any piece of news where their names will be associated. Be it domestic violence, car driver getting mugged or getting the good boy image by helping a sportsperson out of a fish-market; nevermind insulting the fishing folks in the bargain

WHOLESALE FLATTER?
by anurartha venkataraman on Jan 21, 2010 08:44 AM  | Hide replies

Instead of careful observation and critical appraisal of management processes and a style of management of the given executive under consideration, what is being indulged is wholesale flattery which is not only superfluous but also actually talks ill of the person in reality. This is the difference between Indian employees, management literature and europe where no one is a god and everyone respects each other genuinely and wants to learn from the other. We are always looking for new gods and are always reverential and worshipful ever ready to surrender, refuse to learn and try to become leeches and latch on to other people. One needs to look at the abysmal research output and blind parroting of terminologies by the mba factories in India. Instead of wholesale flattery what is needed is articles backed up by data and examples of how people and the others they have worked with have been a part of the change.

Yes, the article lacks substance. You have a point while referring to the management literature and practices in the developed world. One should ponder seriously.

Its Great learning experience
by Indian Guru on Jan 20, 2010 09:52 AM  | Hide replies

I would suggest you to take this experience at a different level. Do not become one more fish in the pond.

I personally feel that all the highly educated people from top Indian univs have a different role to play as far as restructuring India is concerned..

They should have clear and concise focus on R&D, Enterpreneurship, Indian Politics etc..

They should be drivers of the society but not get driven by the society..

hey boy..dont be like Slave Trader and be like Apple Boss
by Dr Jayakumar on Jan 20, 2010 09:16 AM  | Hide replies

Dear Young man,
dont follow Slave trading model and that will do no good to Indian community. This class of people ( Mr Murthy) have be business of Slave trading from ages ( it akbar rules, woodiar rules or James rules) and always be close to runling cummunity and keep pushing working class to bottom in the name of Veda. Now, in the name of Business these people taken another Avatar and selling Indian Slaves in Internationla market and calling that as IT. What a big joke ( if some rational people read the same with care). My advice is pls do not follow slave traders and be like Apple Boss and read more about him and his ethics. It will do lot good for India.

Well Dr. Jaykumar, courtesy these 'slave traders', a number of people have a job and a good income. I bet you would prefer to have these people unemployed and fishing for pennies rather than the comfortable lifestyle they enjoy.
Please understand, that what they are offering is a service. A service which is in demand. I have worked in infosys myself and let me assure you, that its a great place to work in and treats its employees well.
Further, everyone can't be self employed and a CEO. You need efficient people to get the entire framework running.
People like Murthy have changed the landscape of Indian industry. Our economy is no more the slow moving elephant but a roaring tiger thanks to people like him. Yes, we should move on to product companies. But, the increased inflow of FDI, that your so called "slave" activities bring in, has only increased the confidence of VCs and PEs who would like to support new ventures in India

Yes, let us go back and look at what Gandhi said about sending cotton raw material directly to UK. He was asking local people to produce cloth and sell the same in world market. In fact, Gandhi had tried many such a events during Bangali festival called Durga Pooja. For a change let us look at China; they ( I mean china companies) don’t sell people or trade people, instead they trade things that is produced in China. But in India these (so called IT big boss's) sell people directly which is no good for people or nation in long run. For even information it is not good for IT big boss as well; this is because history going to call them as slave trader instead of some good name. Now, let us look our issues; we have many people and we need to provide job to them. We are in good place and have advantage over other nation because raw material is with India and we no need to import. All that we have to aim is to get investment and focus on creating simple or big items (item does not include human being directly) that can be traded in world market. Let us try our best to keep away from selling people directly and making them slave to some one else. If you are serious, I would request you to read Economy of Permanence by JC Kumarapa. Please do not think that I don’t like these slave traders and I respect them lot for their ability to sell people in large number ( even I think these people might have out grown Romans era in this aspect) But I want younger generation to b
