Honestly, i hsve never read a Ruskin.Bond book although have read about him in magazines.Regarding choosing one's career according to one's passion is next to impossible in a Country where a majority of the people just struggle for a living, even in 2010.Its a miniscule lucky few that make it to the job or career of their liking with the majority adapting to their financial situations and circumstances in choosing their respective careers. A census once conducted proved that a majority of people were not happy with their jobs but just worked for a living, hence there are numerous "Failed dreams" and some rare "Successful dreams" in every Indians life.People with very "HIGH I Q'S" sometimes wind up doing petty jobs while some with "AVERAGE I Q'S" become masters of their profession proving that there are various reasons for success, barring talent and passion for a job.Ruskin.Bond is lucky to be successful whilst numerous other Indian writers have failed, irrespective of their talent or passion.

Rudolph, We measure success in terms of money/wealth etc. However if you choose your passion as a career, you will enjoy it even if it may not earn you top dollars.
I have always been a regular reader of Rusty's book's which are very interesting and are very lucid.I really admire him because of his great love for INDIA and not to forget one of the greatest personalities Ruskin Bond has also said that he hates exams so even he is the bird with same feather. It would give me great pleasure if someday i can meet him. Finally i conclude that he is the best "Numero Uno".
I have read and enjoyed many of his articles written. He has a great understanding and love of nature. Those who wish to take a break from the rat race and dog eat dog world we live in today should read his books/articles to learn that we are all children of nature. we should have symbiotic rather than exploitative relation with nature
Finally you guys interview someone who is a true legend! I love Ruskin Bond and his writings. As one of the other readers pointed - his writings aren't exclusively for children. He's a master storyteller and readers across all age groups enjoy his stories. We're fortunate that he returned to India to continue to write.
I like Ruskin Bond & his writings. A very good author indeed. I would like to comment on one issue and that is of choosing your career. Everybody has to advise that one must choose a career of his liking. What if one fails to identify the career of his choice? I am a living example of this issue. I became an engineer without knowing what an engineer is. I am following this profession & do not know whether I like it or not. I have no idea in which other profession would I have been more happy!! There may be many other people around who face same dilema. Would like to share experience with them.
Some ten years back I stumbled upon a few of his books. What a fantastic writer!!! His books are not meant for kids exclusivly, he blends life beautifully in to his novels.Language is simple, interesting and his style of narrating stories takes one to the very scene he narrates. Most of his stories I read are settled in to mountians and the surroundings are earthy and real. He lives at Landour in Mussuorrie and wish him a good health and calm life ahead.
I have read couple of his novels, his way of narration is very cool and simple, his life story it self is Novel as born to English father and Indian mom during British rule, he has big bunch of relatives in UK but he chose to stay in Hilly Darjeeling, he chose the struggling life in India than a comfort life in London. Great personality and a lesson for everyone.

As I just told above in my message that as an Individual I am highly influenced by his stories and I long to see him in person for years.I love mountains and the ambience like anything and it all goes to his style of narrating things. I would love to see him personally to convey my wishes to this great writer.
I think more and more people are begining to understand the meaning of success and happiness now...what is the meaning of success can be entirely different to individuals...we ,especially indians often try to relate academic acheivements with success and happiness...we often work hard to earn more and more money and in that race we often forget the real meaning of life....the small moments of life we enjoy everyday with our loved ones are the real parameters of success and happiness and not the endless rat race we often indulge in ....so try to take life as lightly as possible and enjoy every moment, howsoever small of it
