Study in US

A good article indeed. But I beg to differ with Mr Atwal. I did my MS from a reputed State university and working for a famous research firm for last 4 years. I have some suggestions and advice for the new visa seekers, which are as follows:

(1) I do not know about any Community College which are bigger than the universities (do not consider online universities)...Mr Atwal may help me find one!

(2) The community colleges are cheaper colleges, sponsored by Govt. to give educational facilities to all Us student

(3) Better do a have degree in India than to join a community college in US

(4) No student can have the workpermit while in F1 (Sdtudent Visa)...they can only work inside the college / university campus. But people work outside illegally which is different.

(5) Students should have 3 good reference letter and Statement of Purpose ready to give Impromptu answer to the Visa officer

(6) While applying send a details of your last educational institution (mainly new private university)... US university selection committee really have not much idea about newly formed Indian colleges and universities

(7) A solid financila background. By the way US universities gives very few scholerships. What they give is Edu Aid in form of Research/Graduate/Teaching assistantship...very hard to get...mainly for exceptional Masters and for all Phd students

(8) After study, finding a job which sposor H1 these days is very hard but a little patience can pay off

So good luck friends!

I totally agree with Shuvra. I'm doing MS in US and found that there are many misleading information in this article about work-permit, scholarships and community colleges. This article sounds like that it's a piece of cake to get a scholarship, which is not the case at all.

Great job, Shurva.

This article is a joke!

What is more surprising is that it was allowed to be published without verification of facts and ground realities.

It is a well-known fact that admission to a community college greatly reduces the chances of getting a F1 visa.

Community colleges are institutions where the local people go to get higher education because they cannot make it into reputed universities. It is a channel to help weaker students gain advanced degrees through an alternate route NOT a back door for foreign students to conveniently enter US academia!

International students can only work full time after completing 2 semesters and that too as an internship under Curricular Practical Training. While the program is in session, they can only work for 20 hours and only on campus not outside.

The only guarantee for securing a F1 visa approval is having high entrance exam scores, admission to a reputed university, sound financial status (i.e. ability to bear expenses in the US without working illegally), fluency in SPOKEN ENGLISH and confident performance in the visa interview.

Indian students who wish to make it to the US should work on these aspects with complete sincerity.

If not! There is always AUSTRALIA! Right?!!

Mr.K.K.Bhumbla is a "student visa consultant' and obviously his success depend upon the number of students he can get to US using his consultancy. He is there for money and not necessarily telling all the truth. Certainly he is not telling lies but not the whole truth. So friends seeking admission abroad must learn more about what they are seeking before committing themselves. Watch out is the word!
