reading is not just about knowing the story. It is the different form of expression than movie. Movie can't go in to the details in which a novel can go. Don't mix up buddy.

Different parts of memory work during reading and just watching....while watching it is just receptive but while reading it is both receptive and conversational...try it...that is why watch lesser movie and read more..

Indians are not Readers
by kaushik on Jan 15, 2010 01:56 PM  | Hide replies

Indians generally dont have the habit of reading.
The books they tend to read are mostly academic.
Hence the dearth of good writers and even movies suffer in quality due to lack of talent in the screenwriting department.
Audiences dont have the attention span to understand different stories and plots as they are not used to reading, which helps increase knowledge, attention span and patience.
I had a friend when I was in school whose father thought it was a bad habit to read novels or any other books not related to studies.

Indians are much more readers and writers than any other civil society in the world. It's the black englishman are not true readers because they don't know the Hindi.
You must understand that Ramayan, Mahabharat, Ved, Puran and Vedant are written and read only in Bharat ( not India as Bharat is different from India which belongs to Black Englishmans only ). Even Ayurveda , Maths and Jyotish are written and read here .and Thousands of other books like written by Rabindranath Tagor, Premchand and many more are written and read here .

Only by brahmins...who constitute of only 6 % of total population at any given time. You can also cut 50% as women were also not allowed. So merely 3% of total population has ability to read or write. Now you just do your maths .... :-)

Amen to that. Number of Indians reading books is going down. The saying "What's in it for me financially?" would be the qn that comes to mind for out people. The only books they read is for exams.
