The solution is to change the mindset...
by Souvik Jana on Jan 26, 2010 03:53 AM

It is one in million example where reservation has done good to someone... However imagine if the schooling would have been done properly then reservation would not have been needed... The point is we should make Primary Education strong enough to remove reservation from all sections of the society... Its the mindset of people thats needed to be changed... If reservations have to be made they should be made on Financial Status based and not caste based...

Fortune favours the brave, let's take it in positive spirit
by GAUTAM BARDOLOI on Jan 15, 2010 11:37 PM  | Hide replies

A country like China which is 2 1/2 times bigger than India, almost all of its citizens think that they have only one name,Chinese.
And in our India,we have tamils, north indians, chinkies, marathi, sardar, and so on..we are not ashamed to make fun of our own country man just because some of them donot belong to our own community.
We have brahmin,bania,munda,santhal,etc
Ironically,we also boast that our country has produced great souls like Buddha,Mahatma,Vivekananda,Ramanujam,etc...
And here we are now not happy at the success of one of our countryman!!!This fellow is honest enough to reveal that he got the quota support in making his career.Fact is,he has properly used the opportunity and through perseverance, became economically stable in his life.
In a developing country, where millions of people have to struggle in everyday life, there are millions of success stories as well and such stories are a source of inspiration and positive energy.I won't say that arriving at London is his ultimate achievement. However,it can make him economically and educationally strong to later contribute for the country in his small way.
So far reservation is concerned,it has to be redefined if India really wants to be a superpower. This has to be based on economic inequality, not based on caste or religion.
Govt needs to appoint some one like Mr Nilkeni to workout a new system to replace the caste based one to ensure upliftment of the economically downtrodden section of our society...

But hopefully it won't give every second Malayali ideas of being brave like this!

They can barely make sense in their own language, hearing them speak any other is simultaneously hilarious and torturous!!

Hi Raghurajan,
Congratulations on this great achievement!!!!
Truely inspiring for many poor students in India.
Indian education is one of the best and cheapest in the world.
I have got many friends from such poor families now working in USA, UK etc..
God bless Indian teachers who are almost doing charity by teaching at lowest salaries.
