Some practical problems
by vishal sinha on Jan 11, 2010 08:41 PM

I have run 3 marathons and one the the biggest problem I have had is that none of them have been in my hometown. So effectively you are travelling large distances on the Friday or the Saturday to get to the venue. Which means that much of your training and schedule is disrupted. Yoru meals on Friday and Saturday is in some shitty restaurant. The hotel bed is not very comfortable. So on the day of the race you are already about 90% - 95% of the top form of what your would have been had you been running in the same town as you live. You need to plan for that as well over and above what this article says.
Another problem is tha since you are not running a lot and loading the carbs in the race week, you actually gain a few kilos which does not do your time much good. :-)
