The point you told about IIT and IIM selection system is preety right. I am also from IIT and I spent good bucks on coaching and all. But that is not right. several students who cant afford coaching they have disadvantage here.

No. NO. the quality of students has to improve. this will be done if schools can get good teachers.people will take up teaching profession if they are paid well and respected. it takes time to develop and so in the meantime we need to go to tutorial schools.i am an iit iim.

Education system
by Rajneesh Anand on Jan 12, 2010 09:18 AM  | Hide replies

We do need to modify our education system drastically. My 12th class daughter is being taught diffential equations & integrals. Being a commerce student, she will never be using thesemathematical puzzles for whole of her life! So why make her life hell by teaching her something which she will have no connection with? Instead tech something which has some relevance in her life!!

You are absolutely wrong on the point that being a commerce student there is no utility of differential or integral calculas. Do you want your daughter to be an accountant, adding & substracting data on big big excel worksheets???
If no, then guide her to take active interest in calculus.
Knowledge depends on how one uses it. No knowledge is redundant. It is the user who makes knowledge useful or redundant. To scale the heights of commerce, trust me, a through understanding of calculus does help.
And even if your daughter is not aspiring to a high end career, this knowledge will definitely sharpen her analytical ability, which I hope you would agree, is required for all jobs and all professions.

Since you may not be knowledgeable about such things, you are saying she will never use differential equations and integrals. Now a days financial forcasting and investment banking, insurance sector, pension funds, fund management etc require lot of mathematics and statistics; Your daughter may not require to learn these things if you do not have high aspirations for her then it is ok; she can just skip those portions and get a pass class/2nd class what ever

And pray can you please elaborate on what exactly is not taught to your daughter that has relevance in her life?
I think the Indian education system is very good. It gives a thorough grounding on a variety of subject. It is upto the student to pick up what he/she needs.
And lets not talk about drastic change in education system. Go by history of human nature. Anything drastic is not good.
May be, we should start with strengthening the primary education system. Have more schools. Pay good salaries to primary school teachers so that they inculcate the youngest minds with the right passion.
Syllabus, courses are secondary. We need more people with open mind. Minds open to question as well as accept. When the minds are rightly shaped up, attitudes are positive then this kind of posts would not have appeared at all. You might have been surfing other sites to find out which other complimentary subject of knowledge can expand your daughters horizon.

How tall are you Sanjay? say 5'9" (I am assuming higher side) Indians do not have physical attibutes to achieve level of excellence that Pele could; Mr Balakrishnan's father had the sense to realize that; That is why he showed him Bhikari; not raise false hopes by showing Pele as role model
