Its pradoxical that an african country has done what one of the most successful ICT nations in the world cannot even dream of. Safaricom in Kenya through simple mobile techologies have launched financial products that have transformed lives of people specially in poor areas where traditional banking channels don't reach. In India we have created such a myriad of entry barriers specially at a regulatory front like KYC such that its impossible for a poor person living in a far flung area to benefit from mobile based technologies. 200 million users out 500 million mobile users in India don't have a bank account. Because of our regulatory stanglehold, these persons would never see benefit of mobile banking.
