Through my personnal experience in personnal loan, i request you to take loan only from public secor banks like SBI,Canara etc.It takes little more time in these banks but can allow you to breath for next few years!But the best thing would be to AVOID & AVOID taking a loan.As i noted i had spent my to be earnings before i had earned it.this caused me to realy bleed, and live in fright untill i repaid.

RBI should give strict guide lines to bankers. each bank manager to be audited by accountant general or audit general. now the auditors are not effective to take their loot money to exequer. on securitisation each manager getting a commission of rs 500000/- on each transaction as bribe. bank had too many deposits, interest is very low. lending is very high. particulary bank charges under different heads. different heads were invented by ex finance minister chidambaram. he made tax heads like a mad person. more than a billion population. volumes or so high. tax rates, & heads should be minimal. this mad fm did all sort troubles to tax payers. Banking now worse, in the olden days it is really good. once congress in power, the root cause of corruption is congress.

The above article mentions about the loan lender identification process in a traditional sense. I am in the US and need a personal loan. Also, I am on H1B1. Is there any website where I can get comparative quotes from different banks? What's the amount I can ask for if I have a good credit score. Any additional suggestions are welcomed.

While the underlying principle of checking credit worthiness will remain the same anywhere, US banks look for credit rating of the applicant, if you have a good one then there is no problem, if you have a bad one or do not have any, then getting a loan will be a bit difficult.
For the exact procedures, you are better off blogging in US blogs

You cannot get a personal loan in India while sitting there in US. Banks have to see your face and also you need to sign few papers for that process to initiate, thereafter its all your credit wothiness which will be assesed as per banks standards, doesnt matter what you have in actual.
You can try getting it through any of your relatives or freinds in India who can trust you and vice versa and has a good credit worthiness to be eligible for personal loan
