First of all:

Ban all the Auto Rockshaws
Ban All 2 wheelers
Ban All 4 wheelers

make the roads feasible for driving

Then suspend all the licenses of all indians.

Start issuing new licenses by private company,
make sure they get the right training of driving before they have the vehicle,

and keep the cops off this ,privatise this.

Drunken Driving and Overspeeding Can Be Effectively Curbed
by Nalin Kishore on Feb 10, 2010 01:15 PM

Just Deflate All The Tyres of the vehicle and send home the driver and passengers in an autorickshaw. Follow the same for overspeeders. You will see the offences dropping to near ZERO in one week.
Similar thing is working effectively everywhere in case of wrongly parked cars. The recovery vans and the wheel locks are effective deterrents. Aren't they ? So deflate the drunken drivers' and overspeeders' vehicles, and see the offences vanishing in double quick time.

TIME TO THINK
by aditya sharma on Feb 10, 2010 10:52 AM

It is rightly said that "Great power comes wiith great responsibilities". It is true for Indian Traffic police as well but only the first part. They have been given a power to earn for themselves and cheating goverment who has given them the power. They are the prime culprits for theses accidents. We as people are equally responsible as well. We all know about our constitutional rights but we neglect are duties becuase they are hard to follow.
What we are doing is creating some laws and its loopholes but we have never implementd and executed in the way a law is supposed to be. We have a very good infrastructure even better than some developed countries but where we are lagging behind is in the use.It is not only about accidents, it is applicable for traffic jams and non sense driving. We ourselve do not follow the rules and rest does the traffic police.
It si very easy to make excuse as the lady who killed 2 -3 peoples recently. She said she was bieng foloowed by someone else.Just becuase she did not had courage to fulfill the moral duty. She is aware about her rights but where the hell are her duties.
In nutshell it is all about following the laws.It includes everyone who is living in the country. If you need to stop these kind of accidents, mishappenings, terrorism and all the evils we are facing "WE NEED TO START LOVING OUR COUNTRY".

Punishment for rash driving.
by Choudhary Narayan on Feb 10, 2010 07:52 AM

Fine suggestions by Amit Kher. But what about traffic rules violation by pedestrians, which is also very common & prevalent in India, especially in small cities. Many of them would walk on the roads just like they are walking in the verandah of their houses.
