 what really is her father's profession?

The author mentions that his life partners father is a renowned botanist in the 4th paragraph.But towards the end he is saying his partner and her father are both doctors and so he was insisting for a Doctor as in-law. which one is correct?

u know...treating sick plants. giving them vaccines & pain killers & do surgery. Thats what a dr of botany do. never heard of plant doctors ?
