Never hire an employee for less
by AdfauunhAjrqQOmjh on Feb 04, 2010 04:32 PM

Some reasons why experienced employees find it hard to get a job during recession:

1. They are willing to work for less
2. They are willing to work at a lower position, than in the past.

Both these factors work against the employer, because such an employee will leave at the first opportunity, when market turns around.

Like example of Ragini Mehra above, she would want to leave her new employer who hired her during the dip.

Never hire an experienced employee for less.

I am working since last 7 years in engineering field. I can say one thing if you are technically sound & able to take any critical assignment in faster manner w.r.t. Any team members believe me in worst days no body will throw you, as all need productivity that time. As per my experience I can say If you are good -really productive for team..No one will through you either your manager or...or HR all need productivity without it they can also loose their job. Another I believe you should have good networking & confidence in yourself to face all situation. You will always unbeaten.

Career vs Money
by Richard kevin on Feb 03, 2010 01:42 PM  | Hide replies

The problem arise when a person has very narrow and short term view of his carreer. That is the reason why all try to jump company in 1-2 years. First thing one should understand in life is that its not just the money which will make your life happy, its your career and what your deliver by yourself.
You can make money by just jumping your job(a very short term view), but a matured man will always follow a career path which is not depended on money alone.I would like to say that the IT culture has spoiled the Career aspirations of the youngsters by replacing career with money.

"I cannot be loyal to my new employer who took advantage of the market and hired me for less than my actual worth"

1. Your new employer is paid to get the best deal for his company

2. Your new employer also saw his own revenues dipping for the same reason that you are out of a job

3. Price is determined by demand and supply - the same reason that you were getting your earlier (higher) salary. There is nothing called your "true worth" in a capitalist economy. Your worth is not a function only of how many years and how much effort you've put in a domain - it's a function of the demand for that domain itself, and of the economy itself.

We can't want just the good things and wish away the bad things about capitalism. If you want job security, you should go for government jobs.

Now a days employers have become more aagresive. and they can go to any limit. Take example of iGATE yesterdy they have suddenly increased their notice period to 3 months without any informing any employee. In this way they targeted two things , now employee can not leave the company as most of th offering company wants new joinies within month secondly iGATE will not give any aaprisal. When recession time was there they reduced their notice period to 1 month so that they can fire employee at any time. But now employees are going becz of their rubish policies they increased notice period to 3 months.
