Why

Now why would anyone want this device, when you can play directly from usb drive onto the TV. Softwares convert any format to any format. So why does anyone need this.

There is a device in the US called as Roku. It streams movies (stores) from Netflix. Therefore you dont need to go to theatres. There are stored movies, which get streamed from Netflix onto ur tv. In India, the internet service provider cartel isnt allowing fast streaming. If that happens, people need not go to theatres. Good movie makers can simply release on TV/Internet/Roku/DTH itself.
