I took XAT a long time back and am sure that it has changed since then. The one constant is the essay.
My personal experience is that it is very important. One needs to show that he is well read, have a point of view and has the convinction to essay the same. It doesnt matter if you make mistakes or disagree with their presumption, but make the essay count.

Agree. The key is to substantiate all your claims, however convinced you are that they are true.
The article rightly suggests to focus on accuracy as the cut offs are usually low.
