by talk cool on Dec 13, 2010 10:23 PM

Western Awards are biased to those who underminde India and give them bites for Poor-Pornography.They give awards for those socialist historians who distort Indian history to suit western needed.Ex:Romali Thapar,Guha,A Roy, etc.
We shd not carve for those awards.Good to see Infy setting up this foundation.
And yes, congrats to this powerful lady with strong ideas.I wish her all the best in her future endeavors.

Congrats, Nandini!

Nandini Sundar's commitment to Bastar is amazing. The kind of problems she braves there to pursue her research are awful! But she is a brave-heart and that is what endears her to her friends! Infosys deserves congratulations too for daring to recognize someone like Nandini who the establishment in Raipur and Delhi likes to keep away;-))

WHY PROF.SARKAR's CHOICE IS WRONG?
by Kabeer on Dec 13, 2010 12:49 PM  | Hide replies

Prof.Sarkar's choice of end use of prize money is wrong despite its noble cause.

Education is the subject and the duty of Govt. Citizens are paying taxes for it and also special cess for secondary and higher secondary education.

The right way is ensuring that the Govt is doing its duty not in taking over its duties.

If Prof.Sarkar is going to take over the responsibility of the Govt she and her prize money awarding Co (I dont know whether it is the Infosys Company or Infosys foundation that sponsors this prize) actually in the path of becoming a future pressure group which is not good for the society at large and nation as a whole.

This kind of money should be spent on those project which do not fall under the responsibility of Govt yet who are in need of funds such as destitute homes etc.

To give an analogy it is like feeding wild animals in the jungle thereby depriving them of their natural abilities of hunting and making them dependent of tourists.

Safety of every citizen is the responsibility of the state (in case you didn't know). Would you rather wait for some government officials to come and intervene in case you are getting beaten up, or would you welcome anyone who comes for your protection. How did the comparison between poor kids and wild animals become an analogy?

While education must be provided by the govt, I agree too, but would you like to ban private educational institutes? If India could have completely done away with private sector in at least primary education, we could have had a more robust stream of adults. Deviant govt school teachers would have been taken to task more aggressively. I would personally like all missionary schools, convent schools, madrassas, bal mandirs, etc to close down, except if they are used to impart religious education alongside a mandatory secular, scientific education. However this is not true.

BTW it is Prof Sundar. And ask yourself this question - WHAT IF? What if the Govt. which is supposed to do all that you mention, does not? Hence her choice is a good one and laudable one.

"This kind of bias is especially seen in Sociology as it is considered a poor cousin of Economics."

India has only one enemy, actually: "Economics"
When ethics are tossed out by definition, what you get is a cruel system. This is the lasting legacy of the British Raj - our education system that blindly follows the lies of top Western crooks from 200 years ago.

And we go around proudly displaying that false and flawed knowledge with an MBA degree.

Why do Wipro, Infy, Tata set up socially beneficial institutions even though there is no ROI? When it does not add to the bottomline?

What effectively gets taught is how to cheat the law with loopholes.
