FYI some Traffic cops are already doing this by publishing photos and exhibiting such crashed cars for the Public to realise the importance of safe driving.

More horrendous the warning, more will be the number of smokers.Andhra Pradesh governmetnt tried different symbols (skull and cross bones to cancer ridden lungs) in teeth of opposition from cigarette/bidi manufacturers. The efforts ended up in smoke. The psychology to invite danger has other examples too. When the Japanese government insisted that hotels serving "fugu" fish should warn the diners about the possible poisoning, the consumption of the fish (raw and cooked) went up.
One is sadly reminded of a joke about a smoker who was so frightened by the advertisemsents about the ill effects of smoking,he gave up reading!

If this news is true that cigaratee manufacturing will be stopped for ever, then Management of Cigarate Companies and Present Govt needs a big lauding praise for this landmark decision.
It is a victory for all. This is called True Democracy. When Policies are framed for the general interest of all human beings.
Even Masal Pouch should be banned for ever.
A BIG BIG BIG Thank You. GOOD NEWS.
First time, I thank from the bottom of my heart to the present Govt. for taking this landsliding decision. My heart is filled with joy.
The next thing they should do for overall human beings is to crackdown on all builders and brokers who have jointly put the economic growth on tenterhooks by artificially jacking housing and rental prices to an abnormal stratospheric level. At least 10 crores houses at an affordable rate should be built immediately to push Indian economy on value chain of higher level.

Anglo-American tobacco companies will run away before people start realising that Indian money is looted by Britishers in various forms - Mega-corporations, taxes and worldBank loan interests!

get film stars to ask youngsters to quit smoking
by wizardo id on Dec 04, 2010 11:33 AM

the medium is the messenger. under the guise of creative freedom, toboacco ads are placed very selectively on high gloss targets, an attractive villain or a hero, and some very selective targetting of students. the drive against tobacco has to be relentless and should have high taxes on beedi, cigarettes etc. keep making the habit more expensive, and plough back the money got out of those taxes into curing people who are affected of lung cancer etc, and also some part of the money for a huge drive against smoking, gutkha, chhap kaini, snuff etc.

Smoking

In the west law suites were filed against the tobacco companies and the government for failing to inform public that smoking was addictive and harmful to health.
Lot of out of court law suites were settled by the the tobacco companies and the government running into million.
Since then all tobacco and tobacco related products carry warning.
This is not to protect the public but to protect the government and the companies for further losses.
ALL ADVERTISING IS BANNED.
WELL YOU WAS WARNED THAT THE TOBACCO IS HARMFUL WE YOU SO.
Now you tell me who is to blame since the whole blame has been shifted to the consumer.
It is up to you to smoke or not to not to.
SO FAR THE LABELING ON TOBBACOO PACKETS AND OTHER PRODUCTS HAVE NOT STOPPED ANY ONE FROM SMOKING.
Their may be 1:1000 ratio of those who have stopped nothing more.
AND IN INDIA IT WILL BE EVEN LESS,THERE IS NOTHING IN THE WORLD THAT WILL MAKE SOME ONE NOT TO SMOKE.
ONUS IS ON YOU AND YOU ALONE.
IT IS UP TO YOU AND NOT THE GOVERNMENT TO STOP YOU FROM SMOKING.
LIKE IT OR NOT.

deterrant pis on cig.packets

It will definitely help..atleast to a small extent...it is better than no warning at all. If 'macho' looking pics ( sic!) motivated people to start smoking, then these aversive pics..may be seeing it each time some one takes that cancer stick out of the packet to reduce their life span, should help.

subconsciously it will ht the smokers for sure. its going to be repititive and very stressful for them to watch a cancer striken lungs, than a dashing hero inspiring them to smoke more!

The oroblem has to be nipped in the bud.......
by Proud Hindustani on Dec 03, 2010 10:40 PM  | Hide replies

marketing, advertisement and glamorization by the entertainment media are the starting cause. Once hooked to nicotine it is for life....its more potent than hard drugs addiction. The cigarette companies know that. The amount of revenues and money by far out weighs the desire to promote anti smoking by these companies.

EDUCATION EDUCATION EDUCATION IS THE ANSWER.
