Thanks to these teachers
by LettertoEditor on Sep 05, 2010 12:12 PM

I had a few great teachers

Shalini miss who thought maths in primary. Really great the way she treated us with such respect as kids. Otherwise the school was a real jail type although it was one of the most prestigious schools in our city. Kids were abused physically and mentally so much that one of my classmate went mad and had to be treated in hospital. In 80s and 90s parents were not so aware of kids rights. In such a scenario she treated us with love and respect. Thanks a lot. I and my friends always remember you when we meet and speak of school memories
Some of the others were great teachers but they did not treat us with humanity. So i will not mention their names.

In college i remember rani maam who instilled the love for the most dreaded subject maths. And there was john kennedy sir in college who was agian great and treated us with respect and love. But in college since we were grown up no one dared misbehave or abuse us. One professor used to misbehave with girls by calling them in his cabin. But we(entire class) compalined and principal took action.

Majority of the others only came for salary and not out of love for teaching. So least said about them is best.

And lastly please stop giving autonomy to college especially in exams. Teachers and lecturers show favroutism.

Teaching as a profession at present
by Suram Verma on Sep 05, 2010 11:48 AM

Teaching is a hard Job and young generation least prefers teaching as a profession. They find it extremely boring, difficult to keep learning throughout life and put efforts (mental & physical) to make the students learn who are least interested. Teachers believe that the attitude of society toward the teaching profession is becoming unfair/disrespectful and detrimental to their overall functioning. Teachers did not believe that they are respected or valued, despite their advanced levels of education and efforts in teaching the future of country. Unfavorable working conditions due to overcrowded schools, shared classrooms, lack of teaching materials, too little respect, money, power and time are among the factors most likely to make new teachers leave teaching. School teachers feel they are not paid for their job enough to live comfortable. Teachers are physically and emotionally fatigued to the point of exhaustion with in disciplined, overcrowded and disinterested in learning classes. The workload is too heavy and could potentially be a factor that coming generation is not attracted towards teaching. The system is set up for mediocrity due to large class sizes, heavy outside requirements, and too many classes. Finally, teachers feel that cordial relationship with students and parents, management of student behavior, including motivation and discipline, are extremely challenging, with parents often failing to support their efforts. Educators, administrators, and

Teachers

I was fortunate to be blessed with my eleven years of schooling under one roof. Unlike lot of others, I do not boast of just single teacher who was my favourite. The institution as a whole was unique in that all the staff, both the teaaching and non-teaching were committed to making the kids who were entrusted to them by a trusting public always had the best of everything that the school can provide and also stood as a guide and guard over their character building attempts. The schoolwas an ordinary private institution started for the education of the son of one of the founders. But it went a long way from there to be a leader in the field of education.

We used to haver some thing called a selection examination in November December each year and those who get 50% plus were directly permitted to remit the examination fees. The others had to attend special coaching classes for those who were not that well endowed or who did not have the facilities or environment to study at home. These students were detained in the school from 6.00PM to 10.00 PM in the night and from 8.00AM till 9.30AM in the morning. All the senior staff in the school handling classes for the tenth and eleventh class would be at the school and take turns at guiding the students. They were not paid anything extra either by the school or by the students. They did just for the love of the students and for their integrity as terachers who wanted all their students to be successful in exams as well as in life.

A MEDICAL DOCTOR & A TEACHER OF RARE BREED
by Prabhakar Nim on Sep 05, 2010 06:43 AM

Dr.Sarma was my teacher in Osmania med college
He used to stay in an ordinary hotel close to the hospital, spent almost 18-20 inthe ward ,teaching the student/treating patients with utnost compassion & sincerity, spending money from his pocket.Used to have frugal meal
spend minimum time on self in daily rituals & had just bare minimum clothes.Mrs Sarma also a
doctor hardly had his company. For 3-4 days he was absent in hos & Prof of medicine sent one junior to find the why so.It was learnt that he
had only two pairs of clothe & one was torned & the other was not returned by dhobi as promi
sed.He used to come to the ward at 7AM,& persue hi research ( ECG changes in dehydration
The paper was ultimatly published in a medical
journal in USA.Being mild mannered we used to
bluff as answer some of his questions during bedside coaching, but instead of reprimanding us
he used to ask which book we find this,so that
he can also read. His advise to us was out of 10 patient we should charge 5 our regular fees, charge les fro 1-2,do not charge 1-2& for
one spend from your pocket. We hope the present
doctors even if qualified from DONATION college
must not exploit the poor who look up to the dr
as a GOD,& hence totally submitt.May GOD give hi long & healthy life so that he can be of such exemplary service to the poor & needy.

Not Teaching but Training is key to our growth.
by bihari babu on Sep 02, 2010 08:11 AM  | Hide replies

Most part of india we have same education. memorise book and get certificate. Its makes your mind dull. thats main reason why we live in so much dirt and chaose. Its time to change. Training should be given. Train our mind, physcial to live better life. Train our heart to be service to others. not keep fantasising how to become boss and rule others.
The biggest reason west rose so much is they trained their citizen to be sensitive to other's feelings and need. Kids grew up thinking how to fulfill human need. how to serve. Thats reason they did so much discovery, so much road, health, crime control, school system.
We need to realy think serisously this issue. Else we will live in dirt for 1000 years. jai hind.

Did they do it for the human kindness in Afganistan and Iraq. Was Mr.Bush any better than either Sadam or Gaddafi. Or for that matter was wht they did to the poor American natives (Red Indians) out of the milk of kindness to humankind. It is all bullshit.
The reason West was successful was that they did not carry dead wood 2000 Years and more of history. They do not believe in denying oipportunities to any one be it due to caste creed or religion. We will overcome our difficulties when once we renounce our existing political numbers game where the majority (of idiots) decide the life of the minority of worth while people.
