A casual read
by Bharat Chugani on Feb 06, 2015 01:20 PM

I feel that apart from looking out for prospective candidates, the companies should first focus on hiring and grooming an effective HR and team. There is no such thing like talent acquisition these days. HR just want to pick up few sheep's from a herd.

Need for Training the Recruiters IS The Need Of Hour
by Tajinder Virdi on Oct 23, 2012 12:35 PM

We all debate about what Recruiter are looking for, but it is high time that these people too get trained to pick best among the lot accurately. In very large companies the middle managers are given this job but they are either too technical or too casual in their approach.A very recent incident happened with my colleague , even though the entire department knew he was the best , the top bosses just failed to pick him up and instead picked up a totally fake candidate. This had a negative effect all around now the people are convinced that their own promotion to next level do not depend on performance. This whole incident is an example how a bad choice hampers the morale of entire team especially the youngsters as they see their seniors having tough time to get promotion in spite of performing to the hilt. The company is in a well known steel giant but sadly its work culture is in a deep mess.

Many Indian companies are not flexible
by umair Ansari on Oct 13, 2012 11:45 AM  | Hide replies

"Conversely, it is equally important for you to do things for them"
This is not applicable to Indian companies. There are seniors who put all their work load on juniors and then claim it was all their own efforts. This mentality needs to change big time in India. Also if a junior gives a idea most of the time it is rejected outright by the seniors without giving it a serious thought. this is because of their EGO and attitudes. Atleast discussing the idea should be done so that the new joinee feels encouraged.

I am so glad that most of the people could realize what a garbage of an article this is.

To be hired you have to be an idiot similar to the Hiring manager and to retain your job or get promoted all you have to do is Boss Management. You dont need any other skills. The more skills that you have will only let you down in your job.

skills in you
by Shharad Gotecha on Jan 22, 2011 04:33 PM  | Hide replies

I have gone thru the article of Mr vikas and regret to comment that he is not quite fully aware of the work culture in India and indian industries headed by indians. It still looks in to an employee the ability of multitasking and those having specific knowledge in any area are restrained to work in that area only and cannot represent the company at a broad level. Look in the many companies all around the world, people have worked in offices, workshop, at floor level in manufacturing units and then gradually have elevated to the top Most. ITC and TISCO is example. Just go through the career profile of top notches than you will realise they were not specialist in one field. Sorry, Mr vikas I do no agree with your point no. 1
I my self joined as Export Assistant, got elevation to Export OFficer and Finally Export Manager.

Mr.Shharad Gotecha,
The author did not say that a person should be master in one and null/void in other areas. He mean to say that you need to tell everything about the area you are working and he is talking about the top position and not for intermediate management position. Definitely till manager, everybody will be the jack of all trades bcos to know the effect of integration of all areas to your professionalised area. Now, I think you agree my words.
