Another indicator of how miserably poor
by piri on Aug 30, 2010 11:04 PM

India remains today despite all that hype about 'emerging superpower', 'resurgent economic power', blah blah........!!

The ratio of the no. of doctors available to the population strength in India is much much lower than that mandated by the WHO as an indicator of desirable public health service levels.

When this is so, it is truly remarkable that India now has tens of thousands of unemployed doctors who neither can find employment of their liking nor start viable practices on their own !

The reason is that though there is a huge unmet demand for doctors, much of this demand comes from the largely rural, relatively much poorer regions of the country; where remunerations would be barely decent if at all and hardships to be faced too daunting ! When most doctors come through their medical education after paying through their noses, it is least surprising that work in the boondocks for a pittance would not be the most alluring employment !!!

At least now congress left, SP and RJD should stop vote bank politics.
When minority become majority what they do you can see in Kashmir.

History of Pak and Bdesh also tells same.

Now wake up
Start to resettle Hindoos and Sikhs in Kashmir to get permanent solution of problem.
For that do whatever without concerning world pressure.

Otherwise it will be too late to save Kashmir.

Police?
by Kausik Bhattacharya on Aug 27, 2010 12:19 AM

What about dating a policeman? Both docs and police wear uniforms, keep late hours and command respect. Police has the additional advantage of earning through bribes. Worth a serious thought for every young girl!!!

OK for well employed docs or docs who have very successful practices !

What about the now ballooning numbers of doctors, many of them with MD degrees, who find themselves unemployed ?

Senseless stuff
by pankaj jain on Aug 26, 2010 02:50 PM

Trust me, I'm a doctor. The young doctors in India are not loaded (Unlike the common perception, life is one big struggle including the financial aspect. Hospitals in India hardly have any sexy nurses as the article suggests, and they don't really hit on doctors in any case. So read with more than a pich of salt.

Stereotyped article
by vinu raj on Aug 26, 2010 01:21 PM  | Hide replies

Stupid stereotyped article.Just because you are a doc doesnet mean you got no life at all.I am an Orthopaedic surgeon and I know how to balance my life. The articel just reinforces the stereotypes that people have about doctors- including the ones about how doctors are loaded. The doctors who are loaded have usually spent about 15-20 years getting to where they are and its usually real hard work.

Do some research, talk to people, find out more and then write, do not write by sitting on your backside. Some research is helpful.

Totally agree with you. I am a dctor as well, and we know the reality is quite different. Obviously the author has copied/pasted from the US issue of some woman's magazine.
