Very true...1000% agreed.
Welcome to the hotel california
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely face
Plenty of room at the hotel california
Any time of year, you can find it here

On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light

So I called up the captain,
’please bring me my wine’
He said, ’we haven’t had that spirit here since nineteen sixty nine’
And still those voices are calling from far away,
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to hear them say...

Welcome to the hotel california
Such a lovely place

teacher student ratio
by Kondiparthy Rao on Aug 19, 2010 12:08 PM  | Hide replies

From all the top universities it can be seen that the ratio is 1:10 maximum. If indian universities too maintain that ratio then it will solve two things unemployment and better monitoring of students

Why do we need to fix all the problems?
Can't we just trudge along and die one day?

"India has problems too many to be solved."

Your English is another problem to be solved.

"India has too many problems to be solved" is correct English.

Best Degrees
by R K on Aug 19, 2010 12:02 PM  | Hide replies

It is simply not important which US degree is the best. For Indian students, it is more important that after investing so much of hard earned money in US degrees, what returns they will get in terms of employment in US etc. I feel, chances of good returns are now bleek with the introduction of new rules for H1B visas etc. introduced by Obama Adm. Leaving aside rich parents like Tatas, Birlas etc, common parents send their childeren to US etc for higher studies for better "employment avenues" (which now are still not very good in India still -say because of reservation policies etc). We will observe in forthcoming years that seats in US universities fall vacant because of new harder US policies and less response from Indian students. We have no right to say "wake US wake".

you believe chances are bleak (not bleek) because you did not get a chance to go to the US.

Who has given the rating? Authenticity, competency & credibility of the agency sounding the rating/ranking is to be looked into before taking any decision.

Rankings
by Bob Marley on Aug 18, 2010 09:29 PM  | Hide replies

are misleading and not helpful for Indian students. Ivy's are good only if you want to do MBA/Humanities/Law which Indians rarely do.

For engineering/tech I would certainly rank Stanford, Caltech and even some of the bigger public schools over Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia etc. Though for natural sciences (Physics) some IVY's are top class.

Same goes for Medicine. The top school is Johns Hopkins.

Medicine #1 is Harvard (Mass General, Dana Farber, etc), they are ranked on top both Clinical as well as Medical School.
