Congrats Sriram and may you stay as focused in your entire career. This is a great news. I have deepest regards for every defence person and wish you all teh very best in your life and career.
But, I have a serious issue with the heading - "....dropped out of Engineering to serve the country..." Does this mean that its only the defence people who serve the country? Engineers, business grads...or oters belonging to any civil profession cannot serve the country?
This is an unhealthy statement and creates an unnecessary demeaning for civil professions. To serve the contry, you need to be sincere and honest in whatever you do; think about the country with a true passion;have the courage to make certan sacrifices in life; and think about national and global well being and not just fulfilling one's own desires - by hook or crook....it does not necessarily need a defence person only to serve the mother land.....Even people like the sweeper who cleans the city roads, the labour who keeps the drainage system functional, and the garbage collectors who ensure that every morning we have a clean, healthy surrounding and a positive energy to start a day of work are serving the country.

Very well said every body of any stream can contribute to the nation but the biggest challenge is to be HONEST and SINCERE , the greed for money makes lots of tricks in our life to be committed. There is a huge shortfall of talented officer in forces just because outside they are paid very hefty amount to satisfy their belly.
Any ways All the best to Sriram to have a very fruitful life and stay focused and mission oriented .

I totally agree with you. All the functions in the society is important and are serving the nation someway or the other, but somehow we are just in awe of the people in services.

I agree that every citizen has a role to play for serving the country. But, a person in uniform has to be given due respect and regards for they serve with high risk of life not only to themselves but the persons under their command. A nation which does not give its regards as due to the persons in defence will one day peril. Let us not only remember them only at the time of need to us (1962, 1965, 1971, Kargil) but always and everytime.
My hubby finished his first year of engineering with 78% but left it and then joined the defence to follow his dream...Iám so proud that he did sooo....It gives so much of joys and feel so proud to serve the nation.

give them 100% reservation, they will not turn up. To die for fellow country men needs something which is not there
This refers to Bush's much criticised expression when he sent his forces to Iraq!
But we need many Sriram's to take to politics & lead us! Of course, they will be cast as villains, even if somebody slips & falls on a banana peel but somebody has to bell the cat! We have great talents but no real leaders from outside the circles!
It is real virgin territorry out there - I will get the Swiss hoards - you are elected & selected as PM!! But only those with rhino-skin should even think of such a vocation when many think British would have to scoot from our mental asyslum anyway!! Anyone taking us on, don't even dare!! We are one of a kind!!
On a serious note, people will change from sceptics at real issues being tackled! Let our talents rough it out for a new dawn! The darkest hour of the night is just before dawn. Some sceptics will say just before we have to wake upto another day!! Sigh!
No doubt Indian politics is full of corrupt people, even police people, even govt. employees and officers. 60% of nation is corrupt. only below poverty line and adivasis are some how save from this dirt but then they fell on to other means like nexals and burgalaries. There is only one can feel proud serving his mother land by this mean, this service gives his soul a peace, however Indian people lost in the lurch of IPL and other things.

95% of government employees (both state and centre) are absolute corrupt and they think the common man as their slaves. Britishers were indeed far better than these scoundrels. They have no dedication and discipline and have no concern for the salary being earned by them from tax payers money. The Seniors have no control over their juniors and any action, if taken against any complaints is only an eye wash.
Till there is another Civil Disobedience movement by indian loving people, the people have to suffer in silence for their own ineffectiveness.

Yes you are right. Here is an energetic youngster who want to really serve the nation to protest its right and glory but alas he has to serve under many corrupt seniors and of all the scoundrels (Ministers) who have very scant respect and regard to army personnel. They just pretend to be more concerned to them and shed crocodile tears when a precious life is lost at a very young age. He should have joined Police Department or sales tax department. Since from Kerala, the best would have been State Excise Department.
Any way I appreciate this youngman and wish that his dream really comes true, soon.
