This is Jog Falls in Shimoga district of Karnataka amidst Western Ghat rain forests and is deepest in India. Here river Sharavathy - a west flowing river to Arabian sea jumps down to a depth of nearly 900 feet into four parts - Raja, Rani Rocket and roarer. Water is stored in Linganamakki reservoir for over 1000 MW of hydel power and hence water in the falls is less. During monsoon, the falls will be at it's maximum beauty with heavy flow of water cascading down the falls and it's roaring sound could be heard from a distance. Nearby around there are several such water falls but Jog is most famous. The popular saying in Kannada is " See Jog Falls before you die"

Hey Sridhar, It is not the deepest in India, not even in KArnataka. Agumbe has two other falls deeper than Jog. Meghalaya state has atleast 4 falls bigger than Jog. It may just manage to be one among top 10 in India.
But I dont blame you. That is what was taught to us when we were kids. Even I have answered Jog as tallest waterfall in India and won quiz prizes. Oops!!

pakya- infact this country wud be a much better peaceful place without 25% of these scumbags and the polity wud have to do more than be positioned under the "secular" and non-secular banners.

You are right, our politicians have no time to settle the issues of tribals but, they have enough time to fight on IPL related issues, secular/non-secular issues, caste based grouping, etc.
I love my India. However, I feel sad about these politician termites eating away the goodness inch-by-inch.
Dear Everyone, This truely beautiful picture takes me back to the same scene which I had photographed in Sept.1955. Yes! 55 years ago. I had reached Orcha as a lone photojornalist, and stayed at the same palace which is now a hotel. It was a lonely guest house for maharajahs.
Whether Indian rivers and beaches are soiled smelly, or not does not take away from their beauty, and wonders of nature.
The author of this article should go out of India and look at a country like Thailand or Malaysia or Indonesia...I am not mentioning beaches near Americas or Caribbean islands or Europe...Indians needs to know that beaches are not the places to pollute and dump dead bodies or sanitation..Most of rivers and beaches in India are highly polluted or smelly or with dirty water...Hence I advice the author to use appropriate words instead of using big words like Breathtaking...Only a few places in Goa, Kerala and Tamil Nadu have clean spots..but these are still far away from the beaches in Thailand and other countries....Again good laughable article...
