Reservations about reservations
by Ravi Embar on Jun 06, 2010 10:03 PM

The reservations were originally a temporary measure introduced for government jobs and schools to ensure equal access to all persons. This reservation system has now been entrenched not only in government but across many other areas for an increasing number of people who no longer qualify as either facing discrimination or for being poor). Many well to do former backwards caste persons are abusing the system to get their sons and daughters into choice institutions based on the quota system. Now women have been identified as another discriminated quota and they have passed legislation for a quota in Parliament. There should be an end to all reservations and only poor persons, regardless of caste, must be the recipients of government aid.

re: Hinudu Temple
by Ravi Embar on Jun 06, 2010 09:51 PM

Trust Indians to be shown a great original Temple, constructed many hundreds of years ago - a place of reverence and beauty and to cast the main issue aside and indulge in an ancillary issue of caste. The Temples and their administrations are the concern of each temple's religious administration and not anyone else's. India is a free country - start your own temple or religious society and have your own ideal pujaris or whatever. But please do not expect each and every corner of the world to fall into line with what are essentially private opinions of a few radical persons. The state government of Tamil Nadu has already taken over the Temple administration because it wants the revenue going into its coffers. What the state governments and others who interfere in religious matters do not realize is that people will stop going to temples if they are not going where they feel comfortable to practice their religion but are going to state controlled shrines with state appointed priests. Take a page from the Western countries (God know, Indians are aping the West in all other areas of entertainment, business, consumerism and extravagance) and keep a clear separation of religion and state. Religion should not interfere in Government and Government should not interfere in Religion.

wrong. There are many temples with non brahmin pujaries. The pujaries are being recruited based on caste and have least regard for the process in which the poojas are being done.

you can stil expect a non-white Pope in future (just like US has a black president today) but you cannot expect a low-cast priest in India because India is a very prejudiced country mired in tousands of years of casteism.

No way low caste hindus are not allowed. It happens only in hinduism where as in christ and izlam all( poor rich and black & white) stand in one line to pray. moreover in hinduism we have 100s, 10000s of gods and goddesses, what is this rubbish
