Bhutanese govt hates Hindus and even expelled over a 100,000 Hindus of Bhutanese origin. It is because Bhutan considers itself as a Buddhist state that has no place for people from other religions. Most of the Bhutanese Hindus have been resettled in India while some were given asylum in developed countries such as UK and USA. It is a shameful action and worse than the worst religious dictators of the world. This issue must be taken up by foreign govts or Hindu organizations to UN. This issue must also be discussed threadbare with Buddhist monks such as Dalai Lama for mutual respect for religions cannot be a one-way street. Dalai Lama should either raise it with the King of Bhutan or himself relocate from Dharamsala to Bhutan.
Guys, why don't you give Tawang in West Arunachal Pradesh a try. It's no different than Bhutan. It has the second largest monastery in the world. The people are good, the scenery heavenly and very very affordable. Anyone seriously interested can contact me at pranjal.d12@rediffmail.com I'm not a travel agent or something but can help with information etc. Time to visit:mid October to December end, and February to mid April.
I toured Bhutan in October 2009 for a week. If you are thinking to tour Europe and do not have that much money then Bhutan is a great option. Not much expensive for Indians. People are friendly and very natural. I have posted my Bhutan trip photos at pisaca web

There is one place called Boomthang known as Switzerland of the East that takes a full day to reach by road from Thimphu. The natural beauty is such that even the European & American tourists were in raptures! According to one well-traveled American couple we met, Bhutan is the most unspoiled & eco-friendly country in the world. The authorities consciously keep the number of tourists entering the country in check so that it doesn't turn into another Nepal. Logging is also done scientifically, so the forest cover is never depleted. Well, no timber or any kind of mafia there unlike India... :-)
Bhutan is a best destination to relax and enjoy the nature and food. Atleast 7 to 8 days essential to cover the main tourist spots such as Parro, Thimpu etc.Indian tourists are most welcome there than those from any other country. But you need to be a FOODIE. Enjoy Bhutan Folks.
