I would recommend buying this very informative and precise book by the name of "The Little Guide to Equity Mutual Funds" by an Indian author. It explains all technical terms in factsheets keeping in mind the indian investor and using examples from Indian Cricket, picnics, etc.
I owuld recommend one buying a book and being slef aware of things because financial advisors end up recommending what gives them good revenue. I would recommend the book "The Little Guide to Equity Mutual Funds".It is precise book, very informaative, uses very good examples to explain all technical terms in fund factsheets.
All these articles give great basic information but not the market realities..the fact is that it's been a month since I've been trying to buy some funds and no agency/distributer/ or even AMC offices and banks care even to respond to queries, forget about making any efforts to sell them..the only options that's left with me is to take a leave from my office and go to one of the CAMS or AMC offices to fill the forms and start investing..So I lose on my present salary to invest savings from my past salary (or future in case of SIP)..how's that for investing ??

Rediff is publishing names of so many personal financial adviser's e-mail adresses; why dont you approach one of them; and Axis bank is a broker for many of these funds and if you open an account with them and approach their personal finance guy/girl I think definitely he/she will help you
