Eradicate Corruption and provide Good Pay for faculty
by AswathaKumar K on Oct 03, 2009 10:25 AM

Hon'ble Minister's answers are intelligent enough. However, appreciate the concerned authorities focus on the Large scale corruption in the Government bodies and institutions and provide respectable pay packages on par with the best to both Public and Private educational Institutions.
Institutions imparting Fine arts, sports education/training and making passed out students employable should also be core activity of the policy makers and administrators.

Best quotation for everyone's knowledge

Folks -
Since the mess is deep and I cant clean it with such politicians around, let me help the masses with some research data.

Have you heard of one 'Lovely' university...

NCR (delhi and around) and Madhya pradesh (bhopal and Indore) have surpassed all in corruption and granting useless degrees with due blessings of AICTE and govts. The engineering and medical colleges have a few rooms and some name sake teachers but they have AICTE accredition.
When it comes to value for money (i mean lowest cost degree without any effort), MP is the best, Bhopal alone has 80!!! engg. colleges with around 20000 seats. All you need to do to enter and pass out is to give PEt (0% is OK), and give a modest bribe of 1 to 2 lacs . Common it cant be easier. Medical is still costlier but have trust in red tape and politicians -they will try their best to distribute it by courier to your home.

So if you are 25 etc, you should plan to get visa abroad and migrate before this crop of doctors/ engg / teachers come out. Or else, get a degree yourself.

Also I have a 2 room home - Can anyone guide me to get a AICTE certification for a medical or engg college, say for 2000 seats. I cant pay bribes - dont have so much money but in return for this great gesture , I promise degrees on first come first serve basis. Maybe it will help some poor folks get jobs. Also with AICTE's permission, we can make significant strides in education. imparting engg degree every year ...hence 4 times more income....

Education Market
by satybir teotia on Sep 30, 2009 11:34 PM

It is a matter of great pride to read about the regulatory bodies and our preparedness for having the regulatory bodies in place which should work on long term plannings. Education in 21st century has become a very vibrant sector. Due to lack of planning we lost our established age old system of education in villages. The set up which existed in villages till 1980 created a scenario in which all taking education from village schools were very well integrated in all jobs in urban set ups. But today instead of huge grant going to village schools there is no healthy envoirnment of education due to paucity of dedicated teachers who not only teach but should contribute in making the envoirment of learning, sports and other cultural activities which were in place long back in all village schools.Due to shortage of dedicated teachers the education has collapsed in village schools. Now I SEE A GREAT DANGER IN WHICH THE institute of higher learning will meet the same fate if timely steps are not taken in ensuring the proper faculty which have recruitment at national level and the posting is given to the teachers to their choice institutes but based on their merit. Of course preference be given region wise. All the state suffers from the shortage of faculty. the increase in retirement is best option to make use of experienced teaching resource. But the retirement age should made compulsory in all states i.e. 65yrs and should not become discriminatory.

Education Market

Many of the private institutions and universities are just selling engineering, medical and management seats for lakhs of rupees. Education is just a excuse for making money. Seats are sold anywhere from 1 lakh to 10 lakhs for engineering & management. For MBBS the rate is 10 to 30 lakhs. All money is taken in cash through middle men, so it is very difficult to prove anything. This is not a secret, most of us know about it. Also men in government and AICTE/MCI know about it. Nobody does anything about it either because they are getting a share of it or they are least bothered. Due this deserving poor students are not getting seats. Those students who buy seats are only interested in recovering their investments at the earliest after passing and not in research or serving the nation. Hence there is shortage of good dedicated professors, teachers and researchers. Very soon we will have to start buying them from abroad if this trend continues.

Just do not blame private cilleges.
Many of govt colleges are also equally or more pathetic. They also do not produce any reserchers & only interested in making money or good jobs.

Anything can be bought
by lakshmi modukuri on Sep 30, 2009 10:18 PM

Yes, we do have handful of institutions to implement the laws, give recognition and accredition to institutions. But all these constitute corrupt officials. Anything can be bought - a recognition, an accredition, stars etc. All you need to do is fly the committee members, put them up in star hotels, provide a/c cars for each one, let them go on shopping sprees and foot their bills and finally push a packet and some thoughtful gifts into their hands or hotel rooms. Like ostriches, they will just bury themselves into them and will overlook every fault of the institute. I know of an institute who got accredition inspite of the staff openly complaining about the management and without proper facilities and staff. And these institutes collect heavy fees in the name of Bought Over Standards. God save our education and the generations of students enrolling into such institutions. Amen

state universities is the backbone of higher education in India. But the state can not afford to invest on higher education.this is the situation of most of the states in India. So all the higher education institute must be financed and regulated by center.

UGC started as aGrants Commission adn now assumed a super role of regulating the education. It has grown beyond its own control and has faltered regularly and greatly. It needs to be revamper and restructured as suggested by Yashpal Committee.
