Science of thinking for CAT
by viju kumari on Sep 23, 2009 11:43 AM  | Hide replies

I believe CAT is going to be heavily reasoning based. The math problems test quantitative reasoning more than quantitative aptitude. You have got to learn how to analyze a problem while preparing for CAT.Search for Semantics- "science of thinking" for a broad-based strategy building approach for CAT problem solving.

Clearinig CAT is alrite..but what abt IIMs?
by Bratman on Sep 23, 2009 11:38 AM  | Hide replies

hi ,

I am just frustrated with all the hype and mystery that media creates for CAT. Its not as mysterious as it is created by media.
I am myself an IIM alumnus and let me be very honest about all this MBA from IIM hype. I agree that CAT tests one's common sense and logical thinking but what follows at IIMs is something that is shocking or atleast that was the case with me.(And ya, I am no frustrated soul who got little out of the top IIM. I am just trying to make youngsters aware).I feel IIMs take out all the common sense out of an independent individual . During my PGP, after 3 months at the institute ,I could literally see my clear thinking and common sense going out of the window. All they teach you is to mug what the profs teach. The profs are seldom open to new suggestions. The usual comment is "If you use your own intuition and intelligence to solve this problem then what have you learned from me " And regarding all the hype about case studies , believe me it doesn't help a person a bit.If a person keeps his eyes and ears open, he will get enough business sense in the real world in 1 year than studying at an IIM for 2 yrs.
Only benefit is because of the brand equity , the IIM tag helps you to get along smoothly in peer group and career. But that will nullify in thelong run
So people be careful. If you really want to learn business, an IIM is definitely not a place to be in.

It is always common for people that what they learnt is waste particulalrly from educational institutes. But in life there is no direct correlation from one incident to the other.

conspiracy theories always make a great news !!!
having been an IIM-C alumnus myself, I differ with you. Well the learning part is not just in the books or exams, the summers, the clubs, events, hostel life, the will to always put-fight ..... are the things which you pick up from the campuses...

too bad you had a ad time !!!

It will be better if you ppl share teaching methodology of IIM. What I feel is IIM have a worst teaching style, it doesn't help you develop management skills but make you mugging student.
