Clearinig CAT is alrite..but what abt IIMs?
by Guest on Sep 19, 2009 11:34 AM  | Hide replies

hi ,

I am just frustrated with all the hype and mystery that media creates for CAT. Its not as mysterious as it is created by media.
I am myself an IIM alumnus and let me be very honest about all this MBA from IIM hype. I agree that CAT tests one's common sense and logical thinking but what follows at IIMs is something that is shocking or atleast that was the case with me.IIMs take out all the common sense out of an independent individual . After 3 months at the institute ,I could literally see my clear thinking and common sense going out of the window. All they teach you is to mug what the profs teach. The profs are seldom open to new suggestions. The usual comment is "If you use your own intuition and intelligence to solve this problem thaen what have you learned from me " And regarding all the hype about case studies , believe me it doesn't help a person. If a person keeps open his eyes and ears , he will get enough business sense in the real world in an year than studying at an IIM for 2 yrs.
Only benefit is because of the brand equity , the IIM tag helps you to get along smoothly in peer group and career.
So people be careful. If you really want to learn business, an IIM is definitely not a place to be in.

Yes, it helps you lie and behave like a hypocrite smoothly in your peer group.....even when you are taking home 40K per month, you say your salary is Rs 20 lakhs per annum and even when you are taking home $80K per annum, you say you are earning $340,000 per annum....the biggest liars, unethical unconscionable amoral people come from the IIMS, barring a few honorable exceptions who don't allow the skulduggery of the institutes to affect them!!

CAT preparation - essentials
by BodhiSutra on Sep 18, 2009 11:14 AM

CAT is a test of your aptitude, strategic thinking, time management skills and adaptability to certain situations among other skills being tested. This doesn't require one to necessarily enroll in coaching classes to succeed in the test. If you are determined and disciplined enough, you can prepare for CAT completely at your own. However, for those of us who are unable to find time out of our busy schedules and always leave things for tomorrow, a coaching institute would act as a great guide who will periodically remind you of the steps you need to take to come closer to your ultimate goal. It will also provide you an environment and competitive spirit which might help you pull up your socks and get going for the exam with full spirit.

CAT coaching matters!!

Institutes like IMS learning resources or Career Forum help you develop a structured and regimented approach to tackling questions in CAT..

Over a period of time, repeated practice and mock drills with this structured regimented approach puts you in a very sharp frame of mind whereine you start solving questions mechanically and at good speed...when you enter this zone, rest assured that now you have entered an exalted level and your chances of clearing CAT are very high...without formal CAT training, the approach tends to be slipshod and haphazard and invariably leads to failure......

You can always prepare for CAT without coaching. To know where you stand, just try to solve previous year CAT papers,if you are able clear all the sections in the given time then preparing alone will not be an disadvantage.IF you find any difficulty solving the paper then i guess taking guidance from good training institute will surely help you to better your chances to get into IIMs

a lady not even knowing CAT's correct full form, how is she to write an article about coaching classes. I will tell you, I am a pass out of XLRI Jamshedpur and CAT coaching really helps, though there could be some studs who clear it without any coaching...but their percentage would be less than 10%
