Why Job hoping is good
by yogesh pradhan on Oct 12, 2009 04:16 PM

Job hoping is always good when you strongly believe that you need a leadership/tactical position to fully utilise your potential. We must ensure that the new oppurtunity is not just a matter of chance but a real reward which we deserve because of our hard work and determination.

Paper Artical
by AKSHAY JAIN on Sep 13, 2009 12:10 PM

This article is just a paper article away from hard realities of corporate world or may be applicable for 1 or 2 % people. In India even highly educated people are forced to work just for making their living in real political environment of corporate keeping aside their interests, capabilities, potential etc. People mostly change jobs due to bad managers or some problems created by companies. In Indian environment these planning’s are just dream.

Idea of job hopping is good but it is not every body's cup of tea. Not every one can jump because of various personal and financial reasons. That doesn't mean they donot flourish in their own way. For every successful job hopper there is one hopelessly failed case. Software people have challenged the Marketing guys who were notorius in changing the jobs. Now every body understood that frequent job changing leads no where. It is a myth that every organisation will offer some thing new. It is hopelessly stereo typed management across the width of Indian corporate sector. Any way for youngsters who have that ITCH can always try to gain gyan.

What has been written in the first two comments is very true. Almost all companies work on petty politics & sycophancy. This is true for big MNCs only. In the end your performance itself is regulated by the support & exposure given by management. Management can very easily use an MBA as an office boy while getting big bonuses. When that MBA will quit nobody will notice because appraisal is not linked to retention & employee development.

Depends purely upon what u r getting now. If you are taking up a new job after 10 yrs exp, u can negotiate starting from 40% above the salary ur getting.

Profession Dependent

The optimal frequency of job hoping, in my opinion, depends on your job description. For example, as an engineer in a highly technical role, I don't think it is a good idea for me to job hop in the first 2 to 3 years since that is about how much time it would take for me to gain enough experience to become productive around a particular technology. Once you gain some experience, I think the author's opinion would apply to me.

Nice Article

Job hop is most of the times better..Lot of top management(and of course HR guys) will say Job hopping is not right..You can go to top level sticking with one company blah..blah..But those are not right..They have their own agenda behind it..It makes the company stronger and they get rich not you..After all there can be only one CEO..In fact the great Jack Welch had once advised MBA grads 'if you don't like the company just leave'. It's there responsibiliy to keep you. Not your's to stay in a company. Off course HR guys will say otherwise as it makes their job easier..And company benefits as it has to spend less time and money in hiring and training. But it does not help you..
In my 15 years career I have switched only 1 job. All my friends who have changed more jobs than me are in much higher positions. Also the people above me have come from different companies with less experience than me and have joined my company later than me. Of course I cannot be CEO or VP in current company..So will start searching soon.
