Good article
by Suresh S on Sep 05, 2009 01:57 PM  | Hide replies

Such articles showing successful professionals switching career to thier actual interest is very encouraging for people like me. I have a high earning IT job with little staisfaction and over stressed though finacially compensating for the early hardships. My interest is in writing and movie direction but not sure if I could do well in those fields. Though its all part and parcel of life, a change is needed.

I have already switched to what I always liked doing. I enjoy teaching. I do online tutions in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science. I love this a lot. I earn less than what I did earlier (when I was in IT) because many students learn for free (as they said, they are from poor families). But I love this job a lot. Sometimes, I take up some freelancing software projects to supplement my income.

Social Reform - IIM
by HRM on Sep 04, 2009 09:53 AM

Gurav should b congratulated for bringing social reforms thro media. This is a very innovative approach. One might get bogged down when he learns that there is no Monetary advantage in such blogging. But in any case it is the duty of every citizen to contibute his/her ideas on bringing a social reform. Keep it up Gurav.. There are many to follow u.

Flat at Cuffe Parade????????????
by S K on Sep 03, 2009 01:07 AM  | Hide replies

Okie okie, Tata motors gave him a flat in cuffe Parade......

Cos with a job in a pathetic company like Tata motors with its pathetic salaries, a man would not be able to buy 10 by 10 foot in Cuffe Parade.....
And what expansive lifestyle is rediff referring to?? I mean, pubbing and shopping at malls is done by customer care guys in BPOs too....

Nothing against Gaurav Mishra, the guy is a gem!! Really a heart of gold...but let fellow readers not get a misguided view of any Tata company...

Tata companies are the lousiest pay masters.....the salaries in TCS, Tata motors are so pathetic that a customer care associate in a BPO with a BCom qualification might earn more.....

With any Tata group compnay, you would never be able to buy real estate in the South of Mumbai even after 10 years of service...let us get that straight!!

Gaurav was not just another employee of Tata group, he was the head of marketing for many flagship projects. So his renumeration or other facilities couldn't be compared with an entry level or even a middle management role. Haven't u heard abt IIM graduates getting hefty offers in the tune of crores even from the campus?

Haha,
you seem to be one of thos poor gullible do_rks who the IIMs succeed in fooling....

Before you jump at my neck and accuse me of being a case of sour grapes, let me tell you that i'am insider....

First of all, he is 29...at 29, nobody heads marketing initiatives in a big company like Tata motors...also, starting salaries in Tata motors on B school campuses is less than 5.5 lakhs per annum and may fall to less than 5 l per annum now..

So don't talk like a gullible naive fool....i know how the IIMs cheat students and create unrealistic expectations...i work for Essar oil and earn 11.5 l per annum after 3 years in that company...and mind you, i'am among the top 50% of earners from my IIM batch..

As far as crores are concerned, it is such a blatant lie that according to me, the students should be exposing the ugly truths about the IIMS sooner or later...

So, this man above is definitely not earning more than 10 to 12 L per annum considering that Tatas pay pathetic...this is a company given flat, 100% i can take a bet!!

And btw, Gaurav Mishra was deputed as brand manager for Indica from Tata administrative services.....consideringthat he got TAS, the pay packet might have been better........but definitley not good enough to buy a flat at Cuffe parade.....

Cuffe Parade flat comes upwards of 4 crore......are you saying he made 4 crore plus in 5 years in TAS??

I don't have any problems if he does, but i would never allow truth to suffer at the expense of hype.....

Even investment bankers and private equity professionals, the Kings of the IIMS, require about 10 years of service to buy real estate in South Mumbai...

And moreover, who knows the real story behind the scene? Maybe he was fired, maybe he could not take the stress, or maybe he just wanted to come to US. As far as what he is doing in US as a researcher, that is the norm here. A PhD in US is not like what you do in India.
