The whole thing has been misunderstood several times. The price should not be compared because the thing produced here is an Experiment, to PROVE A CONCEPT of detaching a bike and a car. The PICTURE here shows the BIKE assembled condition, and the CAR (Rear Part) Disassembled and kept on the ground. (the Picture is misleading too) We have NO intention of comparing it with a recession car. It is just that in the discussions we made while coming up with a concept, had its roots at recession (we were ALLOTTED only 25000 for the whole thing) so obviously it is going to look like that.
This is the Reality : The Shaastra Car Was a CHALLENGE, Given to us, to make a concept automobile with some "pseud" value (something attracting attention) Make it IN FRONT OF PUBLIC ( Yes I carried out all the Welding etc in the 4 days while People (visitors) watched ) At day 1 we have NOTHING in hand, that's the challenge.
Anyway, it was an HANDS-ON challenge, those who appreciate it, thanks, those who don't, we're sorry, but it is lowly to post insinuating remarks.
I think its high time i need to clarify about our project. Its bad on rediffs part to report our project against NANO.We wanted to develop a concept of car&bike hybrid. And we had to do all design and manufacturing in 4 days during SHAASTRA.It was done with engineering curiosity and not the commercial feasibilty idea.We never wanted to compete against NANO as we are developing a new class of vehicle and not a car.And the picture is also misleading.

Congrats dude for making a working car. It could have been better if same engine was for both (4 and 2 wheeler). For a 4 day that is very good effort.

Earlier Comment was for people like Anup DuttSharma who at one chance would leave this country.
and still act as if they are doing a favour for the country.

Everyone please get the point that this is a car bike concept built in 4 days.Rediff must not have emphasised on money aspect. And the car is created by a team of 5 in 4 days whereas nano was created by a team of thousand odd in 4 years !
Please start a separate discussion form for posting your hatred full comments for IITians... and post the link here... I hope not that the reason behind all this critics is people not able to get into the IIT's despite their best efforts....

What ur cocky about this piece of crap and confident of a job after joining IIT passing a so called competitive JEE exam...
Take all criticism positively at least due to the media all Indians know what you do in your 4 years..
Take it as a challenge dude.. First deliver then criticize
RTI reveals most camdidates get through with very low marks(even 1-10 in some cases).
The products core strength is that it can be used as 2 wheeler or a 4 wheeler as per the needs. Rediff has pitched it against Nano by comparing its cost. This is very bad on rediffs part. 25000 spent is only for the piece that proves the concept. If this has to be commecialized, everything will be different.
If the article wanted to showcase this item from Shaastra, they should have concentrated on the detachability part.
I am curious. Can anyone name any one product innovated or invented by any of our IIT-ians in last 40 years, which helped our country, mankind or society? They must have, I am ignorant.

They only help in building the career of IIT Grads (being paid exorbitantly for such great innovations) ... My suggestion to the guys involved in the project - Don't ever mention in your CV that you were the people involved in this pathetic Junk dealing, No known automotive co will even dare to call you for an interview ... One more thing - get you names removed from this article ASAP ... although people have already come to know about the dumb-heads behind this crap project ... This is going to hurt you in future ...
IIT guys are overrated. take a rickshaw apart, then put most of it together back again. Is this supposed to be an invention? What are they looking for? A nobel prize for this trash?

Lol! Certainly my friend, it does. Nandan Nilekani, Rajat Gupta, Subra Suresh, Vinod Khosla etc are just a few exceptions.
Alas, there were so few seats when you took the JEE. Don't get disheartened, now also you can try writing GATE, JMET. You get to the same place, and you have more attempts. Best of luck!
