Go on exposing India's underbelly unabatedly.

Anyone or anything who ventures painting India in bad light sells like a hot cake in Western world. For them India is still a country of magicians, jugglers, poverty-stricken skeleton-like creatures, etc. Even our government derives pride if someone shoots India into fame through such poor depictions. So, no wonder if this author gets prominence.

you are right Anil, 'The White tiger' 'God of small things' won awards for picturing a poor oppressed India. Every country has its dark side but has become a way for indian authors to get international recognitionbut by only highlighting bad things about india.

what do u mean? bad things about India? this is the real India..as real as it gets...like it or not. India is not the shopping malls and multiplexes that you and i like to frequently visit.

It is not that India does not contain bad things. It contains even the worst thing. But this is a universal phenomenon. It is there in all countries. The point here is that whenever India is shown in bad light, the presenter gets recognition is western world. This prompts others to sling more mud on India's face. This attitude must be opposed by all Indians. After all, all creatures have their underbellies! But no one exposes it in public and derives pleasure out of it.

maybe u'r right. but whatever underbelly we possess..is not unknown to the world...it doesn't require these authors to expose them. i think we shouldn't get too jingoistic at each and everything and appreciate good work according to merit.

An British friend of mine was really curious to know after reading that ghastly book " the white tiger" if it depicted India. I was truly upset understandably and yes I know demonising India, Religions and does get global recognition and laurels but what about us i.e the people, either Indians or believers of a particular religion or faith. The author basks in glory while we have to face the music. Selfish, greedy and pig-headed some writers have become for their two minutes of fame.

Be clean and respectful. OK.
People living in Delhi do not know what is going on in the rest of India. India is still a country with the most poor conditions my friends. This is what is also shown in Europe and America. Also, shown is the strengths and threats from India.Got it!!!

applies to most of the controversial so called "intellects" - break the barrier, gain fame is the formula - Salman Rushdie, MF hussain, Taslima, Nair to name a few
