Very good article...

Very informative article. This is how festivals are meant to be celebrated so that the next generation will forget everything about festivals, its tradition and significance (it is already happening in cities). Why do they need to go through the rigours of getting up early, preparing special dishes, doing puja etc. when you can relax in resort?

fully agree with you Harsha. There has been a movement against India's collective culture.

The motive is simple. dilute India's prevalent cultural identity and then replace it with a foreign one.

It can be seen more in the media. horrid and dsgusting saas-bahu soap operas, obscene reality shows and comercialisation of festivals.

The new trend is to encourage people to not celebrate festivals in the traditional manner.

This is really sad. the more wealthier Indians get the less they value their culture and traditions.

Hindu festivals
by Srinivas R on Oct 12, 2009 06:47 PM

Hindu festivals are not just about enjoying, but it is about preparing our minds for the good and becoming successful for the future. Every festival has its significance and importance in life. This cannot be fulfilled by a vacation in some alien place, especially with the kids in the family, it is the duty of the elders to celebrate each and every festival and pass on our rich culture and practice to the childern of our country. The MONEY concept introduced by the western people is spoiling this culture and practice and every business is misusing the festivals for earning more money without worrying about the moral values.
