Indian Airlines delayed my flight at Hyderabad because another flight from Delhi carrying a spare part had not arrived! I only had one baggage which I had already checked in - so I waited for 4 hours before the plane actually departed at 12noon. As soon as the flight reached cruising altitide, the crew started serving refreshments, thereby blocking both aisles. No one could move from their seats. For a one-hour flight, why do they bother serving refreshments? If someone was dying of hunger/thirst, they can ask the crew for something. The crew had barely managed to serve everyone on the flight when the plane started landing. People that wait patiently in traffic, at checkin, gate - cant even wait for the plane to stop rolling to disembark. I let everyone else disembark because I knew my luggage would take time.
Needless to say, I could not conclude my business that day and catch my return fligh (same day at 5PM). I asked the airlines if they could rebook me for the next day and compensate me for overnight stay (no harm in trying - right)? While they obliged the change in date, they said their policy does not allow them to reimburse my hotel stay. I spent my own money (had to book an expensive room since it was last minute booking) and returned to Hyderebad the next evening.

Tsu, Tsu what a harrowing time you had; you should have gone in a no frills flight where no food is served.
On a trip to India, I flew from Bangalore to Hyderabad. Th flight itself was about 1 hour duration but the drive and wait times at the airport was about 5 hours. Barely did the flight take off and reach cruising altitude, the crew hurriedly started serving food to everyone. What was the point in serving food on a one-hour flight? Because of all the equipment blocking the aisles, an elderly man had a tough time accessing the toilet. If someone was really dying of hunger or thirst, they can surely inform the crew and get something! Barely had the crew finished serving the food when the flight reached its destination and started the landing procedure.
