popatlal is confused as to who his f@ther is, he thinks it is devilal but it could also be bansilal or bhajanlal

None accept reputation.Hence track record and reputation are important. Sound banks offer PMS which should be prefered.
I have invested through both routes. Returns are better through PMS due to direct buy and sale of selected stocks in client's name. Real test is when markets are declining. Now even 5 lacs are accepted by PMS. This should help a modest income invester--vgp
