Query about CAT pattern

I found the article helpful giving practical tips for 'D' day. I want to know the expected pattern for CAT 2009, like how many questions per section and total questions? And what could be the expected number of attempts preliminary and total to clear possible cut offs?

Hi Anshu,
While CAT has always remained unpredictable, this year it is expected to have around 60-70 questions across the three sections (should be almost an equal number of questions per section). Lat year, however, the English section had more questions.
About the cut-offs, that will depend on the difficulty level of the paper, so one can't really say much. The fact that it is a computer-based test for the first time may also influence the number of attempts

This article provides some very generic tips that can go with almost any type of management entrance test. CAT is much much bigger than the rest and this year being computer based it deserves special attention. The strategies written in the article might have been helpful till last year as then the format was much different. What one could have appreciated is some expert tips on tackling the high-pressure CAT, that too, computer based. Just to mention, it's not that easy to scan through the online test as been advised in the article.

Hi Akshay,
While your point is appreciated, one thing you may wish to consider is that CAT is an unpredictable exam. Hence strategies to crack it need to be kept at the high level, and be flexible enough. You will come to know with experience how any micro-level strategies go out of the window the moment you begin the test! :)
The main point is get a strategy in place based on your analysis of the mock CBTs that you may have taken. There is no 'one size fits all' approach that can work for all students.
Computer-based or not, it would be a good idea to look through (scan) a few questions to see what is there.
Hope to hear from you after the test and good luck!
