Fewer students heading for the US
by Indira Gopinath on Nov 13, 2009 09:00 AM

Fewer students are heading for the US. I wish we could have more funding for research, practice professional attitude at every level ,and much better objectivity than foreign universities.

It is all about to many people chasing few resources. So every country is providing supports to locals only be it US, Australia or Mumbai. But there is always a place at the top

Job prospects
by swetha p on Nov 11, 2009 10:32 PM  | Hide replies

People usually go to US to join job there after studies. Even before the recession, 75% of the companies are reluctant to sponsor H1B visa for international students. So half the students would turn to small desi consulting companies for H1B. Now, there is a lot of crackdown on these consulting companies. H1B applications are being scrutinized and more than half applications are getting RFE (query for more documents) for client letter, purchase order etc etc. After going through all this additional pain, even if someone gets visa, then the next problem is to find a project which is even tougher in this economy.

Not interested in US anymore
by shankar on Nov 11, 2009 06:19 PM  | Hide replies

This clearly indicates that, Indian students are not interested in going abroad for higher studies. I think this decline is due to the series of attacks on Indian students in Australia . Moreover, companies in India are offering good salaries and there are more opportunities in India compared to US.

There was hardly anything to learn in US universities except for the job prospects after completing the degree course (due to high dollar then). No that is going down in the next few years , job prospects are not there for most of the students . Culture was never good and treatment of immigrants(especially colored) in US is getting worser anyway.

Are you in the U.S? Only one place in the world where you can learn something current in any technology or field is the U.S.

As far as treatment of immigrants, U.S is the best country there too unlike Australia where the government just talks and does nothing about it.

Australia's situation is not responsible for US decline, as US is mature country on this front.
It is the Economic melt down has caused this fall.
