Can I Carry Over NO CLAIM BONUS FROM Old to New Vehicle ?
by Nalin Kishore on Nov 09, 2009 05:08 PM  | Hide replies

If I am entitled to max 50% No Claim Bonus on my old vehicle, which I sell off to buy a new vehicle, am I entitled to the 50% rebate on the insurance premium for the new car ? If yes, what are the formalities / precautions / steps to be followed ? Please advise. Thanks.

No.
Motor Insurance is 'motor' specific, not owner/user specific.

You should buy the new vehicle within 3 years of selling the vehicle. For this the vehicle type should be same (i.e. both should be two wheelers or both should be cars etc.) You cannot entitle for 50% No Claim bonus of a Two wheeler replaced with the car. You should intimate the Sale of your car to the Insurance Company and in turn they will issue a Certificate of No Claim Bonus with which you can avail the NCB for the new vehicle.
