Employer needs employee to run his business and employee needs job to lead a good life.
Both of them need each other equally. then WTF the employee alone has to be very polite, etc. etc...
Why those fools at HR dept wants the prospective employee to be very polite and boot licking to the moron at HRD?
It is OK if you say the letter is not grammatically correct. But, don't be too rude by telling that, this word is rude, that sentence is not polite, blah, blah....
It is time for all the employers and HR dept to turn professional and look only at CV and what the prospective employee has in store.
The HR's core function is not intervieiwing prospectives but a resource centre hub for nurturing feeding qualified human resources as and when required by the various functional dept of an commercial organization. their core function is to maintain the required talent pool at all times keeping ahead with the latest trends in HR and the various statutory regultaions of the prevailing labour laws of the then govts.In most cases when I have been interviewed by the HR dept, i found them to be less knowledgeable about the job profile. the basic function is to Asses the candidates basic qualification and aptitude with the company's vision, philosophy and culture, the rest of the technicalities are best left to the concerned dept heads...who are the ultimate captains of their performing teams
i we'd like to convey to madam if someone has no talent to draw Cover & CV at his/her own does not deserve a job. School mein copy kiya & college on line & now to copy the Cover letter & CV. gud !
When we search for a job, we are advised to make the resume presentable. And most of us are carried away with the Job Descriptions or the requirement of the company. I have seen some companies have asked for candidates of 2 -3 yrs of experience working in almost all technologies available. If someone really works in a technology, he/she needs some time to understand and implement.
Regarding the cover letter, though it helps in shortlisting your resume only when a HR having little knowledge of technology prepares a JD.
So my suggestion, work on what you know, show what you really are. Saying about yourself only will not help.

Your world is the IT world. Unfortunately, that world is only a small fraction of the job market.
Funny how people view 'getting a job' as a purely IT domain. Trust a South Indian to know nothing else but IT.

Don't forget India's latest cheivement of 'Chandrayaan', earlier achievements of 'Green Revolution', 'White Revolution', Konkan Railway,Delhi Metro, more disciplined and transparent election system etc. Ahcievements in IT is just another contribution to our great nation.
This lady must have come to rediff books to market her book. What rediff has probably done is, pitched her with video marketing. Nice example of up selling.
Ask her to get a software job? do you actually need soft skill for a software job lol, crap! i got my first BPO job in jeans and t-shirt haha i was wearing sneakers common get a life you are too free to right a book! Only your skill lest you keep the job nothing else. The interviews are never taken by HR managers its only some dumb HR executives and Operation TL or Manager, HR manager do not even bother... do not buy this book i am sure it will be utter crap, all these things are taught in training almost at all MNC's and at those they don't they do not even need it.

You may ofcourse get a BPO jobs wearing sneakers. What about the higher level jobs... Think big!!
Market is changing, now a days all these small things have great importance, but quesition is that does it give the result. Such foolish HR policies & selection criteria diverts the actual talent. After all results are important than what you are presnting to achieve the goal. Good letter is mater of just good writtng skill, but practical job requires much more than this. There are no of peoples which grab the job by adopting such guidelines but after HR they have to show the results. Mr Harsha Bhogle is good commentetor of Cricket, if we apply your logic then he must be Capt of Indian Team. But What you are sayng is absolutly coorect in the views of HR.

In the same logic, one of my nephews knows the names of almost all film and television stars. That doesn't mean he will be a good actor on screen!
Here's the thing about job interviews, I have personally seen people walking in with an amazing resume and cover letter. Do they make it through the first round? Not most of them. We have so many services which make a kick ass resume and a cover letter but do they actually show who you are? No!
What really matters is your fist impression and then how you take the conversation further.
First impression: Dress properly (semi Casual or Formal), guys dont wear any accessories and avoid body odour. (dont smoke or eat strong fragrant stuff before an interview) Girls, dress appropriately dont over do it with too many accessories or too less clothes ( you are going for an interview not for a photo shoot)
How to take the conversation further? : Strong handshake, smile, eye contact and then address the interviewer with a good morning / afternoon, seem approachable. You can not expect an interview to go good without having an positive approach.
Most important thing, be yourself and relax. Don't try to be someone who you aren't.
Bottom line: Resume / cover letter is something that can get you an interview call.. not a job. What can get you a job is yourself not some piece of paper.

Good tips...nothing else other than these basic tips is required to be presentable for an interview and to give good impression of oneself. It is more important to brush up your skills/technologies required for the job than to read such books.
Conseltence need to understand the job requirement. They need to read again and again JB after for candidate need to exaplain the requirement. If he suit for the job after that forward to the concern person.This is way to to...
