This foolish, popularity hungry writer only knows to write about IITs and IIM has he not seen a world beyond IITs and IIM, i think he should understand that there is a very beautiful world outside the IITs and IIMs

and not to mention his angst against South Indians (read Tam Brahms) .

Chatur Ramalingam and now Dr. Neeta Iyer and Ananya Swaminathan.

I guess he lost out to a lot of academically intense Tam Brahms...

I'd like to see a Sardar and a Khan as the butt of all jokes in a movie....

Bollywood will be on strike...

FYI, Chatur Ramalingam is not there in the movie and helloo.. Ananya is based on his real wife who is a Tamil Brahmin. I am sure you haven't read any of his books!

Well, I have not read his books. But still I feel that your complaint is unwarranted. You may be right that he has seen only those elite institutes. There is nothing wrong in that and going by reputations, it seems he is making best use of it. Isn't it?

I know I am bit late with the comment, but I am sure you haven't read his books 3 mistakes of my life and one night at call center. He does write on other topics as well. Chetan is still young and I am sure he is going to write more on the beautiful world he was lucky enough not to have experienced :)

Good sense of humor
by Lavanya Pradeep on Feb 22, 2010 11:35 PM

I've read all his books and I must say he has great sense of humor that appeals to all age groups. His best till date has been five point someone. I guess Chetan is a very smart guy and why shouldn't he be given to his sense of humor and good marketing skills. Well, writing has become the new age business model. Write your heart out with some giggles every now and then and make it a prospective movie script and bargain hard for copy rights. Very smart! Way to go, Chetan! Love your work, anyway!!

What they teach you at IIMs
by ashish srivastava on Nov 17, 2009 04:58 PM  | Hide replies

I admire IIMs. They really teach you that it doesn't matter that you are an ass, what really matters is how good you market yourself as a classy hybrid good looking puppy whom everyone will admire and ogle at.

This writer is a classic example.

Right, but the problem is.. to be taught there and be able to realise that you are not an a55, you need to pass one of the toughest entrance exam in the world and should have consistantly very good academic records. So people like ashish srivastava still get treated like a55 and I feel sorry about that.

Junk..!
by AK on Nov 12, 2009 08:43 PM  | Hide replies

Fine, he knows how to do business...! What makes me fume is that there are plenty of regional language authors who write extremely well - i amnt talking abt Nobel/Booker winning types, but extremely readable but at the same time not something thats complete non-sense writing like those of Chetan's..! Sadly, these guys cant market themselves unlike junk authors like chetan who write in English..! Someone was suggesting chetan is atleast able to get people read..but whats the point in making people read some crap which is in no way better than those saas-bahu serials..! Actually M&B novels are much better than the writings of this guy!!

Ok.. but you have no compaliant about M&B books getting sold in millions! And chetan could hardly be a reasn why those regional writers can't market their books. Dude, Indians hardly read fiction and still he has been able to sell his books. Obviously he has some skills and connect with people, you need to appreciate him for that.

MANEESH MOHANAN
Great work
by MANEESH MOHANAN on Nov 09, 2009 11:46 AM

I read Chetan's latest novel 2 states and felt it was kind of very similar to our real life situation with addition of great wit and humor. His detailing was fantastic with a lot of realism that involves marriages between north and south indian fellows.

Yuppie Author
by breezing thru on Nov 08, 2009 01:54 PM

As an writer Chetan Bhagat's writing may lag well behind many others. As I scrolled down the comments posted on him, I have come across, among other - sleazy, sleazeball - and that makes me laugh.
Bhagat writes for the yuppie generation. People who do not have the time to sit down for deep literary ruminations. In this age of instant gratification, Bhagat has made the young people of India shell go out and buy and read a 'book'. That is in itself an achievement.
He may be no literary master. But his writing is breezy and his grammar is in its right place - (for the latter aspect he has even acknowledged MS Word!).
All said and done he has made people read books and that is what matters at the end of the day. As for those who thought that the Indian English Novel is a dead prospect, Bhagat is a loud and clear 'no'. People wanted to hear their own stories in the idiom that they are comfortable with. Bhagat gives them that and he does that well.
As for those who call him sleazy, I would recommend another writer who was a sensation through the 90s - Shobha De!!! She was pretty good too. It is a pity she doesn't do fiction these days.

As for Bhagat, he 'rocks' - as the target group that he writes for would say.
